Happy New Year, and welcome back! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday break with family and friends. We finally had a storm that made for wonderful times of playing in the snow! It truly felt like my birthday on Tuesday, as I not only got to see all our returning Little Jays and their families, but we also had several new Little Jays join us! My heart is filled with joy every day when see all the smiling faces at school!
We have several exciting events taking place this month. Ms. Alys is able to showcase the outstanding artwork created by our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students in our community. This event will take place at the family friendly, Fenceline Cider beginning January 12th, at 4:30, and the artwork will be displayed until February 25th. It is wonderful that we are able to share our students' talent with the community!
It is with great joy that we are able to hold our Open House/Educational Fair this year, which showcases all PK-12 grade students' hard work. The event will be held in the Cafeteria and Little Jay Gym. During the event we will also be hosting a Baked Potato Bar, and the Scholastic Book Fair. It is a wonderful event, and we look forward to viewing the outstanding work of all our Bluejays, and seeing their families!
Take care, and have a wonderful Little Jay day!

Buddy Project Items
As part of our commitment to creating relationships, building empathy for others, and improving communication, we are engaging in a "Buddy System". Students have been paired across the campus and are meeting a few times a month to create projects and positive relationships.
Our next project is creating musical instruments with our buddy pairs. For this new project coming up, we need a few donations.
Please send in items with your student by Monday, January 17th.
Items needed:
Clean, cans of every size
Coffee cans or tubs
Paper towel or toilet paper rolls
Rubber bands
Shoe boxes
Clean chopsticks or similar sticks
Tin foil, parchment paper, wax paper
Fabric pieces
Clean, unused combs
Anything else that can be musical!
Thank you for supporting our students! We love our Mancos Families!

As of today (12/31/21), eligible households are encouraged to apply to receive up to $30 per month discount toward internet service and up to $75 per month for households on qualifying Tribal lands.
Households can also receive a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet from participating providers if they contribute more than $10 and less than $50 toward the purchase price.
A household is eligible for the Affordable Connectivity Program if a member of the household meets at least one of the criteria below:
§ Has an income that is at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines;
§ Participates in certain assistance programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, Federal Public Housing Assistance, SSI, WIC, or Lifeline;
§ Participates in Tribal specific programs, such as Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, Tribal TANF, or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations;
§ Is approved to receive benefits under the free and reduced-price school lunch program or the school breakfast program, including through the USDA Community Eligibility Provision in the 2019-2020, 2020-2021, or 2021-2022 school year;
§ Received a Federal Pell Grant during the award year; or
§ Meets the eligibility criteria for a participating provider's existing low-income program.
Final program rules will be adopted by the Commission in January. For more information about the Affordable Connectivity Program, please visit: https://www.fcc.gov/ACP
Reverse 911
The Mancos School District uses the reverse 911 system to contact families during an emergency. When we use this system, the caller id number will be 970-533-2465. Save this number in your contacts!!!
The reason we are using this number, instead of our school number, is that this is a hotline number. When you call this number, it will have the same message as the reverse 911 call. This way the school main phone numbers are not getting overwhelmed by calls.
Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT)
P-EBT cards have been sent out. Many are asking what these cards are and why you might have received one in your child’s name. As I mentioned before, when you apply for free and reduced meals, you may be eligible to receive P-EBT benefits. If you have received this card, your household qualified for extra benefits that were intended to supplement families for meals on days that school is not in session during the pandemic. This includes weekends, and benefits have been extended to June 2022. Please see the attached flyer for more information.
