"Walking Trees" 🌴
Mangroves are one of Florida's true natives. The red mangrove (Rhizophora mangle) is probably the most well known. It typically grows along the waters edge. Found along Florida's Peninsula. In Florida removing florida mangroves is illegal. Going to visit florida mangroves is a amazing experience seeing organisms roaming inbetween the roots of the mangroves and the cool water touching the hot rays of floridas sun.
Human Impacts On mangroves.
Good Impacts:
- In florida it is against the law to remove mangroves without a permit from local government
- People plant mangroves to help slow down erosion of th shore
Bad Impacts:
- The swamps and forest are suffering from pollution due to oil spills, pesticides, and industrial chemicals

Florida Mangroves
Rhizophora Mangle
Also known as red mangroves.A way to tell red mangroves is that red mangroves grow in the water and has "the walking tree"look to it with prop roots dropping down from branches.
Avicennia germinans
Also known as black mangroves. A way to tell black mangroves is that Black mangroves grow in the tidal zone and little "fingers" stick up from beneath the tree. This is so the roots can still get air during high tide.
Laguncularia racemosa
Also know as white mangroves. A way to tell White mangroves is that they grow on land, they look like normal trees with the roots completely below the sand. They get the name white mangroves because they excrete salt on their leaves and the crystals accumulate and give the leaves a white appearance.

Abiotic and Biotic Factors
Abiotic & Biotic Factors
- Some Abiotic factors are salinity, temperature, and oxygen. With salinity, mangroves have adapted many ways to prevent salt intake. Some excrete salt through their leaves, and some have root systems that are too small for salt particles, but just big enough for water to pass through.
- Some biotic factors are tree,birds,sea-snakes, sponges,racoons,snails,green sea turtle,manatee.
