Message from the Admin Team
A successful first week was had at McKay High School. Students returned with their smiling faces and an optimistic attitude. This upcoming week teachers will begin introducing learning units, while working to continue building positive relationships with the students. Be sure that your students are getting organized and establishing good routines that will enable them to have success. Let's have another great week Royal Scots!

Shout Outs (Academic, Athletics, Activities)
FFA @ McKay
McKay’s FFA members spent a large portion of their summer actively engaged in taking their learning outside the classroom, which goes to show the impact agricultural education has on students; utilizing what they’ve learned inside the classroom in their Supervised Agricultural Experiences outside of school. We had 9 members compete in a variety of events at the Marion County Fair. In April, 5 members purchased their own livestock, evaluated their nutritional needs, maintained their health, and trained them to show at the Marion County Fair. These members then sold their market animals in the Marion County Junior Youth Livestock auction earning over $9,000 for their hard work raising their livestock! A major shout out to the Schuster family for allowing our Salem-Keizer students this opportunity by allowing them to raise livestock on their property outside Keizer. Without this support, very few of our students will be able to take part in opportunities like this that many other students in FFA programs across Oregon are able to participate in.
Lady Scots Volleyball
The Lady Scots Volleyball team took on the Crescent Valley Raiders last Thursday at home. Each game in the match was back and forth with great competitive volleyball.
Girls soccer will be back on the field this week with two upcoming home matches. Both JV and Varsity are exhibiting positive attitudes and working hard to represent our community. See the link in the newsletter for information on dates and times.
Go Scots!
All school assemblies are back! With lots of spirit and cheers, the senior class won the first class cheer competition. More opportunities to come for students to show their spirit and cheer each other on.
Chromebooks
Chromebooks were distributed this week please be sure to do the following.
Bring your chromebook to school fully charged, everyday.
You will have a label for your charger and chromebook with your name.
Please be responsible and keep track of your chromebook.
The McKay Football Stadium, fence lines, under and around bleachers, all fence lines around campus, shrub beds, building perimeters, sidewalk cracks, along curbs will be getting an herbicide application of Landmaster BW at some point during Spring Break. Signs will be posted when the application occurs. For further information regarding this notice, please contact Safety & Risk Management Services at (503)399-3071.
Medication Check-In
If you have any medications, they need to be checked into the main office with the nurse. Please contact the main office if you have any questions.
Schedule Change Requests
Counselors are working diligently on getting through all the change requests made up to this point in time. The schedule change request link for all students closes on Monday, September 12th at 7:00am. Please submit all requests by then. Thank you for your patience as our counselors work through all these changes.
