Odyssey Updates 10/22/2023

Greetings Dragon Families!

I hope this message finds you well. Report cards will be posted in Family Access (Skyward) this week on October 26. A paper copy will be sent home along with a progress monitoring letter if the student received a failing grade in core classes. It is important to note, that all middle students are required to have passing grades in all core classes prior to transitioning to high school. Our school counselors are available to answer any questions you may have regarding course requirements and promotion.

Hope to see you at School Advisory Council (SAC) and Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) meeting on Tuesday, October 24. Both meetings will be held in the Media Center.

Below is the revised schedule for Volleyball season. Hope you can come out and support our Dragons! Cost is $5 per adult and $2 per child/student.

October's spirit day will be a Halloween dress up day. Students will be able to dress up as their favorite character or career attire on October 31. Masks will not be permitted and face paint is discouraged. Clothing must be dress code appropriate. Students will be asked to change if clothing is inappropriate or causes a major disturbance/distraction on campus. Participation is voluntary.

A huge thank you to Ms. Honeycutt's Peer Counseling class for coordinating this day for us!

Odyssey has partnered with Health Hero to offer no cost in school flu vaccinations to your child during the school day. Only students who have a submitted pre-registration will be provided the flu vaccination on Wednesday, October 24.

As Hispanic Heritage Month comes to a close, Ms. Vazquez hosted our annual Spanish Spelling Bee. Congratulations to all of the participants. Hazel Salas placed first and will represent Odyssey at the district Spanish Bee.

The Bean Stack Challenge for October 2023 is Hallo-Read 2023. Six winners (two students for each grade level) will be chosen based on logged reading minutes every Friday this month. The prizes for the October 20 drawing will be a $10 Scholastic Bucks coupon to use at the Book Fair in November. The prizes for the October 27 drawing will be a $15 Scholastic Bucks coupon to use the Book Fair in November.

PTSA invites you for some fun and FREE Halloween Games in the morning at the school entrance by Media Center, you don't want to miss it. Play to get a treat sponsored by your PTSA!!! We will also have a spooky treat for our spooktacular faculty.

📽 November 10th - Vista Lakes Elementary PTA and Odyssey Middle PSTA are working together to provide you a outdoor FREE family event! Friday, from 6:15 to 8:30pm we will be hosting a Family Movie Night at Amhurst Park. The movie will start at 6:45pm, there will be concessions available for purchase! Bring a blanket or a chair and get ready to view the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem movie under the stars!

This year's theme for Red Ribbon week is " Be Kind To Your Mind. Live Drug Free." Each day we will show our school spirit as we pledge to be kind to ourselves and be drug free.

Odyssey is looking for volunteers to participate in our annual Teach-In event. Participating in Teach-In is an opportunity to share with students about your career, interesting hobby or life experiences that helped you become successful in life. We can be flexible with the time you are available on Thursday, November 16, 2023.
