News You Can Use
March 27, 2020
Principal's Note
Dear Ravinia Families,
As we continue to navigate new territory, I'm hoping to continue to share the News with you each Friday. I will be including some announcements, ways to keep us connected, and maybe a tip or two from one working at home parent to another!
I'd love to see our Ravinia community in their school spirit. Feel free to post your child's picture on Twitter with our #RaviniaRocks hashtag on MONDAY, MARCH 30 in their favorite Ravinia spiritwear!
Warmly,
Courtney Nordstrom
Important Dates: Birthdays at Ravinia!
We typically announce our student birthdays during morning announcements at Ravinia. Since we can't be together, I am going to be publishing a recorded announcement on Mondays to our Ravinia School Facebook page and our Ravinia School Twitter account. You don't need a Twitter account to access the videos! Just go to Twitter.com and search #RaviniaRocks or @RaviniaSchool. I'm also posting some other videos for students. Check out my 'Try Something New' spring break challenge!

Resources for Parents
Give kids some age-appropriate choices for 'time blocks': set a timer for a specific amount of time (think 10 minutes per grade level). Give them choices within a theme. Suggestions:
- Creative Time: build with blocks or legos, draw or make a craft, make a fort, try one of those science kits in your closet!
- "Make Your Brain Grow": read, write a note to a friend or family member and mail it to them, watch a live feed from a zoo, take a virtual museum tour, use a tape measure to measure items in your home (older students - perimeter and area of rooms!). Many authors are reading their books online as well.
- Life Skills: this is a great time to teach your children how to load or unload dishes, fold laundry, put toys away, and cook! Cooking is such a great skill that includes reading, math, and science.
- Game Time: dust off the games in your closet and let your children pick a new one to play each day. Encourage them to make up their own!
- Physical Activity: Get outside if the weather and social distancing allows. If not, have your child set up an obstacle course to complete. There are also many websites offering free children's workouts during this time!
