Great Things!
Super job with tornado drills last week! Kids were quiet and followed directions well!
If you haven't been by the office to see the fall art, swing by and check it out! Ms. Kristin's class made some beautiful masterpieces!
Thank you to all who helped out, checked in, provided an extra set of hands, and took in extra children on Friday. We had a lot of staff out with a shortage of subs, and yet the day went fairly smooth! Thanks all!
I can't wait to post the fantastic "oops" creations made by staff at our faculty meeting Wednesday! Be on the lookout for these!
Challenge: Be a S.T.A.R.: As our classes are filling up, new behaviors are starting to show up, and we are feeling more tired- let's focus on our own breathing. When you start to feel stressed or anxious about a situation, stop yourself, take three deep belly breaths, and refocus. Being a STAR is just as beneficial for us as adults, as it is for the students. Are you willing? **See Conscious Commitment below

Nuts-n-Bolts:
*Announcements are uploaded and ready to go-featuring Shandi's a.m. kids this week. (next week: Shandi's p.m. class)
*Signing out for lunch: Please be sure to sign back in when you return. We are noticing that many are signing out but not in upon their return.
*Thermostats: Maintenance has asked that we share that the thermostat in your rooms will adjust your temperature by 3-5 degrees up/down. Please attempt this before reporting that rooms are too cold or too hot.
*Websites are due to be updated by end of the day Friday, October 11. Please email me when you have done this.
*Don't forget CPR training will be hosted at HGECC on October 9th. If you haven't signed up yet, and want to get trained, stop by and put your name on the list.
*Teachers: I am still missing some of your class lists--please turn in the list to me of how you would divide your class up in the event there was no sub by the end of this week. Please also place a copy in your sub folder in your classroom. **Please list which students will stay with you/your para, and which students will go to other classrooms.
*We will be conducting a food drive to supplement HGECC's back-snack program during the weeks of October 7-17 in conjunction with Caring for Kids.
*October book shelving duty: Annie
Speech and Language Tip of the Week:
If you are looking for a quick activity to do during circle time, try and have your kids brainstorm items to a specific category. This can promote verbal reasoning skills and expressive vocabulary skills. Start with a category (farm animals, things that are green, things that can fly, things that are cold, things that have wheels, etc.) and see how many items your kids can name without the use of visual cues.
Fine Motor Tip of the Week:
Ideas for scissor practice
Let’s give our students many practice opportunities to master how to operate scissors and strengthen their hands. Resistive materials will provide sensory motor feedback as well as increase strength.
- Play dough
- Paint chip squares or strips (from the hardware store)
- File folder paper (cut into square size)
- Bulletin board border paper
- Index cards
