Glenealy Library News

September 2013

Welcome back to school everyone!

The big news is - our new library is finally finished!

We are thrilled that the redevelopment of our school library has finished and has been an absolute success!

We hope you agree that the results were worth the wait - we are now open for business again. Please stop by and enjoy the space with your child, we would love to see you.

A special opening evening for parents will take place on Wednesday, September 18. This will be an adults-only event with wine and nibbles to formally celebrate the opening of our new library space - an invitation will be sent to parents soon.

Again, we cannot say thank you enough to all parents who have contributed towards the library redevelopment project. With the help of all our parents, the PTA raised an incredible amount of $400,000 to put towards the renovation. This is an absolutely outstanding effort by the whole community.

You can see from the slideshow below how much all our students are enjoying the new space!
New LIbrary

Opening Hours

The Library is open to all students, parents and caregivers before and after school every day.

Opening hours Monday to Friday:
Before school - 8:00am - 8:30am
After school - 3:00pm - 3:30pm

Students are also welcome to visit the library during lunchtime from 1:05pm - 1:30pm.

Please stop by to see the new space or to read with your child. The library also provides nice, quiet areas where parents or caregivers can assist children with homework too!

Book Loan Limits

Students are assigned one day per week as a Library Day. This is when they visit the library with their class and have an opportunity to browse and exchange their books.

However, students are very welcome to change books before or after school as well as lunchtimes, providing they bring their striped folders.

The loan limits are as follows:

• Year 1 & 2 students – two books

• Year 3 & 4 students – three books

• Year 5 & 6 students – four books

Striped Folders Please!

Please put your child's library day on the home calendar or diary so they can remember to bring their books back with their striped folders. No book loans will be permitted without a striped folder.
Thank you.

Lost or damaged books

In the event that your child has lost or damaged their library books beyond repair, we ask parents to pay a fine that covers the replacement cost for the book, shipping fees and administrative fees associated with the new book.

Fees for lost or damaged books are:

$150 per paperback book
$200 per hardcover book

Please send a note in the diary for Library staff should this happen and a notice/receipt will be issued. Thank you.

Overdue Books

Your child is able to keep most library books for 14 days before they become overdue. Exceptions are audio books (years 5 and 6 only) and magazines, which have a loan limit of 1 week only.

If the books have not been returned after 2 weeks, an overdue notice will be issued. There are no fines for overdue books, however your child will not be able to borrow other books until the overdue ones are returned.
