TIONG BAHRU'S PAST
Built in the 1930s, Tiong Bahru Estate is one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore. It was the first project undertaken by the Singapore Improvement Trust , a government body administered by the British colonial authority, to provide for mass public housing in Singapore. The estate consists of about 30 apartment blocks with a total of over 900 units. The apartment blocks are made up of two to five-storey flats and the units are assorted three to five-room apartments.The characteristic is that people love the way the buildings can be preserved for a very very long time . And the way the coffee shop , stall , they might change the signboard , but the people are the same that they are cooking the same food . It is special because the blk 75 Toa Payoh Lonong 5 Hawker Centre , the old people are looking for cold desserts , they no need to go to classic restaurant to have those cold desserts , but instead , they could go to Toa Payoh Lorong 5 Hawker Centre to have those desserts that are cheap and appetizing . Tiong Bahru is reowned for its bird singing varies , which has now been torn down and replaced by the link hotel . Bird lover gather with thier song bird . Every morning to catch up with fellow bird lovers over coffee and teas amid the crisp , melodious chips of Prinias , Robins and shrikes . The Link Hotel has taken over in the mid 2000s .
