A New School Year!
Hello students and families,
Wow!! What an amazing opening week we had at CRHS. Students and teachers came in excited for the new school year. Colonel staff set the tone with expectations in their classrooms and students set the tone with their T.O.U.G.H. behavior. And, despite the crazy heat, our sports teams played their hardest. I look forward to another amazing week as we start the new school year. If you have any questions or concerns about anything, please contact me at sherman.jared@ccpsstaff.org or (410) 479- 3678.

- Make sure to update your Student Information Form on PowerSchool by September 30th.
- The last day to make changes to your schedule is 9/12.
- Parking permits must be visible in your car starting this week. If you drive to school, you must fill out a parking permit form. Additionally, if you are chronically tardy to school, you will forfeit your parking privileges.
- We will be cracking down on tardies and backpacks this week. If you are tardy to class 5 times, you will serve 5 lunch detentions. Backpacks are not permitted in classrooms. If you need help accessing your locker, let a teacher or administrator know.
- All Caroline County Public School students may eat breakfast and lunch free of charge this year, with no application needed. CCPS now participates in the Community Eligibility Provision, which allows free meals for all students in schools in low-income areas. There will still be a charge for extra items such as snacks. School menus may be found on the Caroline Schools, MD free mobile app and on all CCPS websites.
Parking Permits
Students who wish to drive to school need to fill out this form. The fee is $30 and you will need to provide a copy of your license, insurance, and registration. This information can be sent to Mr. Oberdorf.

Cannabis Legislation Update- From CCPS
As you may have heard, marijuana (referred to as cannabis in legislation) possession and use became legal on July 1, 2023 for adults 21 and older, with certain limits and restrictions.
However, nothing has changed for our students in Caroline County Public Schools. Students are still not allowed to use or have cannabis in schools, and there is no plan to change disciplinary practices.
The CCPS Student Code of Conduct (policy and regulation) states that if a student is found under the influence of drugs or controlled substances, a teacher or administrator will intervene and respond to the situation. Related service providers, such as social workers, psychologists and counselors, are also informed.
If a student is using or possessing drugs or controlled substances at school, discipline can include anything from intervention by an administrator to suspension to expulsion. School police and related service providers are notified of the situation.
Those distributing or selling drugs at school can be suspended long-term or expelled. School police and related service providers would be alerted.
Regarding cannabis education in school, the subject is already a part of Maryland’s Comprehensive Health Education Framework and is addressed at multiple grade levels, and lessons vary depending on students’ ages.
Promoting a healthy and safe environment for ALL students and staff:
CCPS is committed to providing a safe, respectful, nurturing educational environment where the worth and dignity of individuals are valued and their safety and rights are protected. Behaviors that compromise this environment, interfere with school operations, or are otherwise contrary to the basic mission of our public schools will not be tolerated. Bullying, hazing, harassment, or other discrimination affecting a student or a staff member should be reported by a victim, parent/guardian, witness, staff member, or other person having knowledge. Staff members with knowledge of such conduct are required to promptly report it to the building principal.
Caroline County Public Schools prohibits discrimination in its educational programs, and in employment, on the basis of actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, sex, age, marital status, sexual orientation, genetic information, gender identity, or disability.
