Humming Puppy
Welcome to Humming Puppy, a yoga studio in Melbourne and a yoga experience evolved from traditional practices in a stunning space that resonates with a perfect hum. Humming Puppy is a journey that begins the moment you leave the outside world and step inside our studio. We draw our inspiration from the lineages from which we have practiced and learnt. This gives our students a unified and holistic practice that reflects the literal Sanskrit translation of the word yoga “union”. We base our teachings on the principles of breath-pranayama, movement-asana and awareness-meditation. These principles are the foundation of our 4 class styles in which we welcome beginners through to the most experienced yogi. Our classes are typically ‘warm’, conducted in a climate controlled environment of no more than 27 degrees.

Forget the perfect pose. I don’t care about how you look; all I care about is how you feel. I want you to feel grounded, connected, alive and free. Yoga is for happiness, peace and love. It’s not for touching your toes and doing crazy poses. No fast paced classes with me - I encourage you to move mindfully not messily. I promise a deep blissful savasana. Oh, and I like to chant! :)

Depending on my mood, my classes are generally quite strong (except for my mellow, my mellows are mellow)! I like to focus on core strength, on getting that uddiyana bandha switched on so that we can support the physical body and build our practice from a place of stability….. all whilst using the breath to bring us into the present moment and connect us with that place of true happiness and peace within (sounds pretty good right!).

I like to take my time teaching certain postures, workshop them, and help you get into an alignment that not only keeps you safe, but also your practise always challenged! I also want you to get deep into postures beyond just the physical and I will often talk about the body’s energetic centres in the practise. Each month I teach a different breath exercise or pranayama which relaxes the mind for sivasana, and I often include a guided meditation. I love to chant traditional Indian yogic mantras at the end of class like the Gayatri and the Mahamrinyunjaya mantra, to create a full holistic practise. Hopefully my classes encourage you to go home and continue your practise daily, even when you are not Humming with us!
