1. Stay Active My Friends
We are not always active, but when we are we stay on track together!
For some, it's physically activity, for some it's eating cleaner, for some it's getting on financial track, for others it's getting on track with a positive mindset, etc. Your track could be any one or more of the well-being elements listed below in our Live Well banner. The important thing is to get on track and stay on track!
Here are 3 key steps in staying on track:
- Identify your track
- Start your cadence
- Get accountable

4. A Few Words From Our Associates About How They Are Staying On Track
We have 105 associates who are taking the Stay on Track challenge for 4 weeks! The goal is to simply be active at least 3 days a week for 30 minutes, for a consistent 4 weeks. They are doing so by checking in on Mindbody to prove they were active that day. We asked what are they doing to stay on track with their activity:
"My two toddlers keep me on track by keeping me moving constantly at home! But seriously, what really helps is working out with the ladies in my department!"
~Danielle Doughtie (J&CLT-ATL)
"My husband and I are having fun competing."
~Jessica Dodd (LT-ATL)
"I am trying really hard to do something every day for 30 minutes minimum!"
~Susan Manthey (JH-ATL)
"I take my son to the park, chase him around and do squats as I push him on the swing."
~Heidi Fisher (JCLT)
"This has been fabulous for me! I actually got up and ran before work two days this week and made it to two yoga classes here! I never thought I had time but I have been sick of feeling old and tired. This challenge has given me the “ok” to take time for my health."
~Roxane Mondibrown (JPS-ATL)
"Dawn in the Coliseum kicked my butt yesterday…. My body aches."
~Jessica Dodd (LT-ATL)

8. Associate Highlight with Mike Manusama (LT-ATL) | A Story of Activity with Meaning
"Due to the passing of an FDNY family member this past May, I looked for a way to honor those we lost on 9/11 and the brave souls we are continuing to lose years later due to 9/11 related illnesses. Hearing stories of his heroism, and others, in the wake of that terror, made me feel very small. Growing up about 30 minutes from the World Trade Center, that day still hits home for me every year as I knew many friends and acquaintances who lost loved ones. It was time for a new challenge in my life, and I tried to find a way to tie that into a way to honor victims of that day.
With the help of my co-worker Joe Campbell, I found a company called GoRuck. Started by a Special Forces Green Beret, the company hosts endurance events that aim to bridge the gap between our men and women in service and regular civilians like myself. For this specific event, the minimum is 12 hours, and 14 miles with at least 30lbs in a rucksack. I chose to do the GoRuck Tough 9/11 Memorial. I had a plan and I had the motivation, but I didn’t have much time. I started a rigorous 10 week training program that would hopefully get me in the shape I needed for the event. In addition to numerous 8-10 mile weighted hikes through some of our local trails, I also became the weirdo in the coliseum who was working out with the heavy backpack on.
On September 8th, I packed my plate in my bag, with a 3 liter water bladder, a change of clothes and some food. A quick weigh in of the bag (45.4lbs), and I was off to Athens. At 9pm, 25 of us were greeted outside Sanford Stadium by 2 special forces green berets that briefed us on what we were about to get ourselves into for the next 12+ hours. It got real very quickly. In lieu of a “welcome party” (military school staple for 1-2 hours of Physical Training), we were all given “coupons” which were 10-80 lb objects that we would carry in addition to our rucksacks. Unfortunately for me, I am 6’6 and always draw the short straw when it comes to pity parties and was given the heaviest one. Myself and 2 others rotated 60-80lb sandbags between the 3 of us for the majority of the night. We ventured out to beautiful rural Athens, where a gentleman by the name of Bob Hart had built an entire 9/11 memorial by himself with the aid of his wife. The entire memorial is open to the public (even at 3am) and sits inside a trail on the side of their property. It features homemade pieces that memorialize those fallen during the 9/11 attacks. We were tasked with reading out the names of all 2,996 victims out loud and shared stories about the first responders that we knew. After a brief rest, we were on our way back to downtown Athens. The long walk ended back at the Athens firehouse to deliver food, and other gifts that show our appreciation for all they do. A few minutes before 10am, our Cadre’s presented us with our highly coveted patches and it was over.
After it was all said and done, I walked 13 hours through the night, and racked up a little over 20 miles with an average weight of about 100 lbs on my back. It was the hardest endurance event I have ever done, and all things considered, it was just a drop in the bucket compared to what our first responders do. I encourage all fellow associates to consider these events if they are looking for something to challenge themselves. There have been lots of studies that have come out in the past few years about the benefits of rucking. It is a great supplemental training regimen for people like me who’s knees have a rough time running on pavement.
I also want to thank the Coliseum for sponsoring my entry into the event, and allowing some of my absurd backpack training practices to take place under their roof!"
