Fifth Grade Business Fair 2017-18
Dear Parents,
On Thursday, December 14th, the fifth grade students will be having their Business Fair. All proceeds from the fair will be used for the 5th Grade Field Trip and Crossing Over Ceremony.
The objective of this activity is to give the students experience in planning a product, calculating a reasonable selling price, assembling the product, advertising the product, and then actually selling the product to the students and parents in our school. Also, the students will be required to complete this project as part of a cooperative team composed of 2-4 people. This is a graded activity and a participation grade will be entered into TXConnect.
In the next week, the students will be forming their groups and be deciding on a product to market and sell. After that, they need to get busy working on producing approximately 200 items to sell. The students will be given time at school to make the advertisements. Aside from the advertisements and group forming, the remainder of the work will need to be completed at home. This project is considered an “AT HOME” project. For this reason, it is important that students choose group members that they will be able to meet with outside of school. In the past, students have found great ideas and resources at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, and Pinterest.
Students are encouraged to spend no more than $10.00-$15.00 per group member to create the product. Any money spent by the students or parents should be considered a donation to the project, and will not be reimbursed. We encourage everyone to find cheap and resourceful ways to make fun and attractive products. Health department regulations will NOT allow food, candy, or products using latex, including balloons. A sample of the item will need to be brought to school by December 8th for display and advertising purposes.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Dianne Cooper at dianne.cooper@leanderisd.org.
Thank you,
