Discipleship Digest (vol. 1, iss. 13)
Our family camped in the Black Hills in July, and I rolled them out of bed one morning at oh-dark-thirty to look for wildlife in Custer State Park. (We came all this way, we better see some buffalo!) Coming around a sharp curve, this sunrise greeted us. It was a breathtaking moment of promise for the new day. The gradual brightening of the skies had been a sign, but we had no idea the dawn would be so glorious!
That is the message of this Gaudete Sunday, with the rose-colored candle on the Advent Wreath. Rejoice, for the dawn is on its way! “The coming of the Lord is at hand.” (James 5:8)
As surely as the growing light and color of the morning heralds the sunrise, we can have confidence that the glorious promises of God follow behind Jesus. The dawn is breaking. God’s healing and light are coming. Be watchful. Be ready. Be radiant!
