Course Selection
Counselors have been in the classrooms for the past few weeks to work with students on the course selection process for the 2021-2022 school year. All students will have to make course selections for next year, whether you are brick and mortar or virtual.
If you have not yet had the opportunity to make your course selection for next year you can follow the detailed instructions linked below.
Students must log in to PowerSchool and link to ClassChoice to make their course selections for next year.
Your academic teachers will recommend you for the appropriate level in English, Math, Social Studies, and Science Courses. Please speak with your core subject teachers about your next level course.
All returning students will need to select elective courses to complete the course selection process. Students should have a total of 8 courses at the end of the process.
Below are a few links to help make the course selection process a little easier.
Current Juniors: Your schedule must include a minimum of 5 classes for senior year (even if you do not need the credit to graduate). Rising seniors may also consider January graduation. Speak to your counselor during your IGP about this option.
PACE Program
Eligible students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and meet other application requirements. Current sophomores and juniors are eligible to sign up for PACE courses during the course selection process. There is an additional application process that must be completed before students are fully admitted into the program.
Students and Parents interested in learning more about the PACE program are invited to attend a VIRTUAL meeting on Tuesday, March 30 at 6:00 PM.
Representatives from HGTC will discuss the program, cost, courses, and application process. All current sophomores and juniors are invited to attend this meeting. This is just an informational meeting and there is no obligation to apply to PACE if you are not interested.
Please use the link below to join our meeting on Tuesday, March 30 at 6:00 PM to learn more about the PACE Program. More information is attached to this e-mail, and all of the attached documents will be discussed during the meeting.

Virtual Option for Next School Year
For students who wish to return to their high school in person, no action is required on your part. Students who wish to enter the Virtual Program, or those students who want to remain virtual, must submit their request during the enrollment window.
Please keep a lookout for the communication from the district to make your decision in April.
AP Exams
AP and IB exams will be administered May 3 – June 1, 2021. Students will take either the paper and pencil format administered at school or the digital format administered at home this year. Please be familiar with the information and policies below if you are taking an AP or IB exam this year.
For Students scheduled to take exams at school: (This includes all students who are not virtual – with the exception of Ms. Lehr’s IB students taking the AP English literature exam).
· All school administered exams will be given via the paper and pencil format at the old SES building next to the SHS building.
· Students may drive to the parking lot next to the old SES building and enter through the double doors next to the bus parking lot.
· Please leave cell phones and smart watches at home or in the car. Cell phones may not enter the testing room.
· Be in the testing room at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled testing time. For example: If the exam is scheduled for 8:15, be in the testing room by 8:00. Instructions will begin promptly at 8:15. Don’t be late!
· AP does not allow food or drinks in the testing room. You will be provided a snack and water during the scheduled break.
· You are not required to attend classes when you have an AP or IB exam scheduled – regardless of the exam duration. Therefore, once you have been dismissed from the exam – you may go home.
For students scheduled to take exams digitally at home: (This includes all virtual students with the exception of virtual students taking AP Calculus, AP Statistics, and AP Chemistry. These students will take their exams at the school with brick and Mortar students during administration 2. It will be a paper and pencil test)
· You must download the AP exam app between April 1st and May 1st. You can locate the AP exam App downloading information from your MY AP website.
· The day of your scheduled exam, you must log in at least 30 minutes prior to the scheduled exam time.
· The AP scheduled exam times are universal. So your exam will either start at 12:00 EST or 4:00 EST. It you login late – you will not be able to get the time back.
· Students with Collegeboard approved accommodations will have their accommodations automatically included in their digital exam.
There are no make-up AP or IB exams! If an emergency should occur, please contact Mrs. Renfrow (AP exam) or Mr. Wilson (IB exam).
Below is the link to this year’s AP/IB schedule:
If you have any questions, please ask your AP teacher or contact Mrs. Renfrow at Srenfrow@horrycountyschools.net

Please speak to your guidance counselor to see if this test administration is right for you.
Schedule Your IGP
Parents, it’s time to schedule your student’s Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) Meeting. IGP Meetings are completed for every grade level, 9th through 12th. The IGP Meeting is an opportunity for us to look at graduation requirements and make sure your student is on track to graduate. We also discuss college plans and make sure you are completing the requirements necessary for your post-high school plans.
If you’re still undecided on what you want to do after high school it’s okay. The IGP meeting gives us a chance to discuss some options and explore your college and career possibilities.
IGP meetings will be held virtually this year due to parents and visitors not able to come into the building. We are virtually meeting with parents anytime from now until we leave on Winter Break. Meetings are arranged anytime from 8 AM until 3 PM, Monday through Friday. Please contact the appropriate counselor via e-mail and arrange your appointment. A link to a virtual meeting will be sent after we schedule the meeting. We can be flexible with schedules so let us know what works best with you. This is an important meeting and we want everyone to have their chance to complete the IGP meeting this year. We look forward to meeting with you and your student.
Order Yearbooks
Tutoring Available
If you are looking for some additional help in your classes this semester, we have two options for after school tutoring. Please take advantage of this opportunity.
In order for your tutor to best serve your needs you MUST be specific on the sign up form for which topic you need assistance. Simply stating that “you need tutoring to get your grades up” is not sufficient. Be as specific as you can with the unit or topic you are covering in your class.
All teachers are available based on their schedules to work with students, but Monday through Friday at 3:25 PM we have teachers in all subject areas to tutor students. Subjects include English, Math, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, CATE, and Fine Arts. Tutoring can be done in person or virtually and it is available to every grade level. Please be as specific as possible when requesting assistance.

Students sign up online and will make arrangements with an IB student for tutoring in various subjects including English, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Tutoring is done after school and on the weekends with various time slots available. Sign up on line by visiting:
