Message From Our Child Nutrition Assistant, Mrs. Julianne Srirama
Good afternoon Technology Tiger families.
This message is in regards to our Child Nutrition Programs.
Although we are not currently feeding students ON CAMPUS, we are still conducting Meal Distributions every Monday from 8 am until 11 am. Families can pick up breakfast and lunch for the entire week at that time. Meals will be charged into the system based on the student's eligibility status.
Whether your family has been taking advantage of that or not, please remember that new applications for the Free or Reduced priced meals must be submitted every school year.
Our Grace Period will end on October 1, 2020. Any student that has not submitted a new application, will automatically revert to full paid status in the system.
Now, more than ever, it is important that our families take advantage of all the benefits available to them, like the School Breakfast Program and the National School Lunch Program. Every student that qualifies for free or reduced priced meals at our campus helps the entire school to get more benefits and financial help. We hope that you will help us help our school.
Please contact our Child Nutrition Assistant, Mrs. Julianne Srirama, jsrirama@harmonytx.org if you have any questions or need any assistance.

Fall Reading Challenge - Grades 6-8 September 21, 2020 - January 3, 2021
This challenge is based on The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller. Reading skills are foundational to educational success for all students. Reading is a skill that students will continue to rely on as they move into their adult lives, and a love of reading is one of the best gifts we can impart to our students. Pushing students to read more and discover more about who they are as readers is what this challenge is all about.
So, what’s the challenge?
Donalyn Miller’s challenge is for students to read 40 books in a school year. For the inaugural year of this challenge here at Harmony, we are going to start out a little slower, and instead of an entire school year, we are starting with the fall semester. For the fall, we are asking every 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade student to challenge themselves to read at least 12 novels. It is not a class grade, but teachers should make this a part of their class with regular updates on progress, celebrations of achievements, and book chats on what everyone is reading.
As a way to explore who we are as readers and push those self-imposed boundaries, we are asking students to explore a variety of reading genres as noted below:
- Fiction - 1 historical/realistic fiction, 1 graphic novel, 1 book recommended by a parent or family member, and 1 of student choice-4
- Nonfiction - 1 nonfiction book on topic of choice, 1 autobiography/biography, 1 book recommended by a classmate, and 1 of student choice-4
- Poetry - 1 novel in verse or book of poems-1
- Student Choice - 1 of the 3 may be a re-read of a book previously read-3
Note: Books over 250 pages will count as 2 books.
Students will --
1. Read a book from one of the categories listed above.
2. When finished reading the book, record their progress on the Reading Challenge Progress Chart (This is a sample Google Sheet. Teachers, edit the link to connect to the sheet you have created for your students). Students will enter the title of the book read in the appropriate space and highlight the space according to instructions on the Google Sheet.
3. To help classmates find books they want to read, students will do a review on at least 5 of the books they have read. A link to the Book Reviews form is also on the Reading Challenge Progress Chart. Students have a choice of how to review their books - a written review in a Google doc, a video, or a drawing or picture that symbolizes the book.
