Cougar Connect Community Edition

September 11 - September 22

Principal Arellano's Post

Greetings Cougar Families!

We have had an amazing month with students. Our teachers and students made sure to hit the ground running! Learning centered on collaboration and critical thinking is visible in all of our classrooms. Take a look for yourself and follow us on our Facebook page @kingelementarywsd3.

King celebrates their 50th birthday this year! Please be on the lookout for our many celebrations occurring throughout the year! We are focusing on legacy this year in celebration of our 50th and would love to have both present and past community members help us to celebrate. Be sure to read the Cougar Connect Community Edition in detail to see all the ways we are celebrating!

Please be sure to look at your REMIND messages for important communication from teachers and school staff. If you do not have a REMIND account, please be sure to sign up for one. If you need help, please call our front office for assistance. REMIND is our school and district's means of communication and the best way to stay in the loop!

We need your help keeping our students safe! Please be sure to adhere to the following:

  • Please encourage your students to use the crosswalks when crossing the street.
  • Please utilize our kiss-and-go for drop-offs and pickups when picking up students in vehicles.
  • If you are parking to drop off or pick up students, please avoid double parking, blocking driveways, bus lanes, and intersections.
  • Please adhere to the speed limit.
  • Please ensure all students are gathered and playing on the playground before and after school. Please do not allow your students to climb trees.

We thank you for your partnership in helping keep our students safe!

Habits of Success Focus: Growth Mindset

    ROARS Focus: Attitude

Growth Mindset helps our students in the following ways:

    • Encourage a passion for learning, even with difficult concepts.

    • Mistakes are part of the process of learning.

    • Promotes creative thinking where students think outside of the box.

    Dinner Table Prompts:

    • What is something that is easy for you to learn? What is something that is hard for you to learn right now?
    • How can we learn from our mistakes?
    • Why is it important to not give up when learning is hard?
    • Do you think learning is only hard when you are a kid? How do the adults in your life model a growth mindset?
    • What does it mean to have a fixed mindset?
    • How can collaborating with others help you in learning? Can we learn from other kids?
    • Where else besides school is it important to have a growth mindset?
    • How does our attitude about learning impact our ability to learn?
    • Why is it important to be patient when others around us are having a difficult time with a concept?

Cougar Alert

  • All visitors must check-in at the front office prior to entering the school building with a picture ID.

  • During arrival and dismissal, please maintain the speed limit, stop for students and adults in the crosswalk, and avoid blocking the street. We are partnering with our SROs to ensure speed limits and traffic laws are followed for the safety of our students and community members. Please drop and pick students up from our Kiss and Go lane located in the west front parking lot.

  • Please do not drop students off prior to 8:00 a.m. as we do not have duty staff available for supervision.

  • All afterschool clubs will end at 4:15. Please be sure to have your student picked up on time. Please be sure to check your Remind app for cancelations or changes to schedules.

Staff Recognition

Please send Mrs. Arellano an email if you would like to recognize one of our staff members for the amazing work they do each and every day with students. Staff recognitions will be submitted to our district Good Newsletter and be featured on our Cougar Connect Community Edition. Mrs. Arellano can be reached at arellanos@wsd3.org.
