Principal's Message
Attendance Bingo
The week before the winter break, we had our first attendance bingo celebration for students who had perfect attendance the 2nd 9 weeks. We had over 200 students participate. The kids had so much fun. We look forward to more kids participating next 9 weeks. Thank you for supporting attendance and learning.
Safety Updates
The new "Open Carry" law went into effect January 1st. It is important you all know the implications for your children while they are with us. In a nutshell, weapons are not allowed in the school building, grounds and premises. I am sending home a hard copy of the information principals' received with more details in their Thursday folders today. Please take a minute to read the memo. If you have any questions, please contact me.
Voter Registration
AISD encourages all parents to register to vote. It is an important civic responsibility and for children to learn about. The importance of voting and the freedom we have in our democracy are topics we discuss in social studies. Below is a hot link to voter registration information. A flyer about voter registration is also in Thursday folders. www.votetexas.gov
Gifted and Talented Screening
January 11th through January 22nd is the window for parents to nominate children for the screening process for the spring. The nomination window is set by the district. No nominations can be accepted after January 22nd. Parent nomination forms are available in the office. Any questions can be directed to me at 512-414-5311 or kathy.noack@austinisd.org.
Attached you will find a flyer for the AISD High School Showcase this Saturday, January 9th. This is a good opportunity to learn about offerings at different high schools. Another attachment is an flyer for cool science lectures for kids.

2015 - 2016 Parent Survey
Later this month, parents will receive the AISD Parent Survey in the Thursday Folder. We encourage you to offer feedback on the 2015-2016 school year by completing the AISD Parent Survey. Your opinions are important and will be taken into consideration as we strive to serve our students better. Thank you in advance for taking the time to help us understand our strengths and opportunities for improvement.
Counselor's Corner
College. Ready?
It may seem like a long time from now, but it’s never too early to start thinking about college. On January 27, 2016, as part of our college and career readiness week, we have a unique opportunity to hear from a college recruiter about how to be college-ready…starting now. Mr. David Romero, Texas Regional Recruiter for Iowa State University, will be discussing topics like what colleges are looking for in students, how families can prepare early for kids to succeed in college, and what resources are available to make college more affordable and more likely. Mr. Romero will also take some time to answer questions you have about helping your kids prepare for college.
This will be from 8:00-8:45 a.m. in the cafeteria, and coffee and donuts will be provided. Please RSVP to nicole.lozo@austinisd.org by January 22 if you plan on attending. All Boone Elementary parents are welcome!

Yearbook Photos Needed
Our yearbook chair has been busily working on this year’s yearbook but we need your help! If you have attended a Boone event this year, and happened to capture some fantastic moments, please send your pictures to Alycia Sumbera at LeseeAtx@yahoo.com Please include the teacher & grade of the student(s) and the event the photo is from. She will try to incorporate as many of them as possible! A flyer with purchasing options will be coming home soon, as well.
Spring Carnival Help
Attention, attention, read all about it, the Boone Spring Carnival is upon us! It will be here before you know it! We are so excited to host our favorite, fun filled family event in April. If you are interested in helping to chair a committee, such as Silent Auction Chair, Volunteer Coordinator, etc, please contact our Spring Carnival Chair, Brenda Ledesma at ledesmabrenda@yahoo.com, or PTA President, Serenity Lange at Serenitylange@gmail.com
If you would rather be a part of a committee, and not the chair please email as well, we would love all the help you are willing to give. We will have plenty of volunteer opportunities the day of the carnival as well. (As we near the carnival date, sign-ups will begin to go out).
If you are a business owner, or work for a corporation that loves to give, please let us know about that too, we would love donations for our silent auction. We are also actively seeking corporations to sponsor* a ride, or rides to our event. Please contact the above referenced persons if interested. *Sponsor refers to the cost of the ride or entertainment item for the length of the carnival. Costs can be denoted directly from Brenda Ledesma, our Spring Carnival Chair.
If you own a business, and are interested in hosting a booth or supporting our endeavors in another way, perhaps with offsetting other costs, we would love to have that support as well. We would love for this carnival to be the most spectacular one yet. We can’t wait to meet you.
See the link below for a message from the PTA President.
