Jefferson Davis
Nicholas Gutierrez and Brandon Singleton
Hisotry
Davis was a large plantation owner and a prominent southerner as well as a west point graduate. Even though he was originally against succession, he still served as the president of the Confederate States of America. During his time is office he neglected the economy for military matters and oversaw the runaway inflation of the confederate dollar. His military attempts to defeat the north all failed and ultimately he was removed from office when the confederacy collapsed. Davis was imprisoned after the war.
Significance
Davis failed to win the Civil war by failing to achieve military superiority over the north and diplomatic recognition from the rest of the world. These failures along with the inflation of the confederate dollar ultimately led to the loss of the civil war.
