Staff Picks

Jade has been watching

The Handmaid's Tale.

The Hulu series, based on the book by Margaret Atwood, takes place in a dystopian future, where America has become a country called Gilead. The main character, June, finds ways to push back against a society that is determined to silence her.

"To hear the voice of June, another outspoken women like me, while she struggles to fight her way out of Gilead and protect her family while narrowly escaping the gallows, definitely reminds me how lucky I am to live in a country where I am encouraged to participate in our government and am free to speak my mind."

Keep a lookout for The Testaments, Atwood's much anticipated follow up to The Handmaid's Tale, which is due to be released this month.

The book and TV series are both available to check out at RVDL.
