It's Been a Great Week at Hoover!

Congratulations to our Spell Bowl Team

This week the Hoover Spell Bowl Team had a fantastic night competing in the area Spell Bowl competition at West Lafayette Intermediate School. The team placed first in the orange division. Special recognition goes out to Silas Hartnett, who was recognized as a near perfect speller at the competition. Thank you to our coaches who have been working with students all semester on spelling strategies and to all of the parents who were able to travel to the competition to cheer on our team.

Title I Family Game Night

On November 12, Hoover hosted the Title I Family Game Night for all CCSC elementary school students and their families in collaboration with the Hoover After School Program. Over nearly 200 students and their family members were able to attend a fun-filled evening of popcorn, traditional and not-so traditional family games together.

It's Book Fair Time!

Dear Parents and Families,

Visit Hoover's Scholastic Book Fair anytime from December 2-6 in the media center. The book fair is open during school Monday - Friday and after school on Dec. 4 & 5 (Wednesday and Thursday) from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The theme is An Arctic Adventure. The Scholastic Book Fair is a reading event that creates a mini bookstore where students can see a wide, wonderful selection of books that they want to read.

Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child's reading habits. If you are unable to attend the Fair in person, we invite you to visit our online Book Fair from our fair page at:

Our online Fair is available from Nov. 21-Dec. 4, 2019. Books will be mailed to Hoover and delivered to students. Another option is allocating money for your student to spend at the Book Fair using E-Wallet. Instructions for setting this up for your child are available at the above link.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the Book Fair!

Notes from the Nurse

The week we return to school after Thanksgiving Break is National Hand-washing Awareness Week: December 1-7. Imagine how great it would be if you or your family were never sick again! Will Sawyer, MD, Internal Infection Prevention Expert, gives us Four Principles of Hand Awareness to help do just that:

  1. Wash your hands when they are dirty and before eating.

  2. Do not cough into your hands.

  3. Do not sneeze into your hands.

  4. Above all, DO NOT put your fingers into your eyes, nose, or mouth.

Your eyes, nose, and mouth are known as the “T zone.” The T Zone is the only portal of entry into the human body for ALL respiratory infections! They seem so easy to follow, but it’s more difficult than you think. Practicing these four behaviors will ensure you stay well. The power is in your hands to prevent the flu!

As Thanksgiving approaches, stop and think about what you are thankful for. I am thankful to work with such wonderful students and staff at Hoover. This is my first year at Hoover and your children have been very welcoming. I would like to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving!
