Pierre Omidyars life and career
Born in Paris, France on June 21, 1967. He is an Iranian-American. He is also a philanthropist. He is the founder and chairman of eBay. He became a millionair at the age of 31 with eBay's 1998 Initial Public Offering. Pierre and his wife, Pamela, founded Omidyar Network in 2004 to expand their efforts beyond nonprofits to include for- profits and public policy.Omidyar has been involved in online journalism since 2010 as head of investigative reporting and public affairs news service Honolulu Cival Beat. He announced he would be creating and financing First Look Media. When he was young, his family moved to the US. His interest in computers started while he was in The Potomac School in McLean, Virginia in the ninth grade. He graduated college with a bachlors degree in computer science in 1988. Omidyar first worked for Apple, then co-founded Ink Development, a pen-based computing startup that was later branded as an e-commerce compony and renamed eShop. When he first made eBay, it wasn't called eBay, it was called Auction Web. He went somewhere to get the name changed to echobay, but that name was already taken, so he came up with eBay on the spot, so he wouldn't have to pay for another trip there. Omidyar is worth about $8.5 billion, making him the 123rd richest person in the world. He is 46 right now.
