Great Moments in Hot Bev History
Big doin's down south. We have our neighbors to the south to thank for hot cocoa:
In 1519, Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés arrived inTenochtitlan to meet with the Aztec Montezuma. The emperor thought Cortés was a god and welcomed him with great ceremony. Moctezuma offered Cortés a frothy drink made from cacao beans and seasoned with local spices, including chili peppers (above, right). Though Cortés did not initially like the drink, calling it bitter and almost undrinkable, he grew to enjoy the new concoction. Cortes brought back these stories and they spread through Europe, often being sweetened with European spices.

Learn about the ProRanger Program
The ProRanger Program, a partnership between Temple University and the National Park Service, seeks to support the NPS mission serving those populations by continuing to diversify their law enforcement staff. In brief, selected students complete coursework at Temple, a paid summer internship in a variety of national parks (urban or remote), and, after graduating, receive free tuition to attend the federally accredited law enforcement program held at Temple’s Ambler campus. Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible for non-competitive hiring with the NPS (100% of our previous successful graduates have gotten a job).
This program is open to students of any major! Preliminary applications are due October 12th!
