Sand Ridge "Shark Bites" Update
August 22, 2021
It was so wonderful to see our students and their families at our two Open Houses last week and I am excited for our first day of school tomorrow!! Our motto for this year is "Everyday is Shark-tastic!" and we know each and every day will be!!
Sand Ridge Elementary, and all Onslow County Schools sites, are mask-optional for students, staff and visitors, though use of masks is highly encouraged. Please let your child’s teacher know your intention so that they can better monitor each student’s adherence to parental wishes. Information about Onslow County Schools Covid-19 protocols can be found on the Onslow County Schools webpage.
While most components of everyday teaching and learning have returned to pre-Covid practices, we acknowledge that Covid is still part of our world at the moment. The OCS and NCDHHS Guidelines note exclusionary symptoms and parents are encouraged to call our school nurse, Mrs. Lisa Williams, with any questions.
Visitors on campus will be limited to the front lobby and main office area. Parents are reminded that once you enter the front doors you should proceed directly to the office and wait for someone to assist you. Any parent visits to the classroom during the instructional day must be arranged with the teacher and must have received prior administrative approval. Information about volunteering at school will be coming in September.
Student handbooks have been included in the beginning of the year paperwork. Please take the time to read through the handbook and discuss elements with your child/children.
I hope that you will take time to read through this newsletter each week. It is updated weekly and will contain relevant and timely information as well as an up-to-date calendar of upcoming events through the year.
The staff of Sand Ridge is excited to have our "Shark Family" together again and we are committed to providing our students with the best education, in a safe, orderly environment, with strong, positive relationships among students and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher, counselors, office staff, or administration at any time. We value your support and input.
Here's to a wonderful school year!!

DROP OFF AND DISMISSAL GUIDELINES
Parents MAY walk students to the classroom to start the year under the following guidelines:
- Kindergarten parents may walk their students to class on their staggered enrollment day (Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday) and also on Thursday and Friday of the first week of school.
- Grades 1-5 parents may walk their students to class on Monday, August 23rd ONLY.
- Only two adults may accompany each student into the building and to the classroom door.
- All visitors MUST have a visitor sticker upon entering.
- Entry will be at the side door near the Art room and Cafeteria. This will be the only time this entrance will be utilized this year. Following the first week of school, all students will enter the building via the carpool line or from school buses.
- Parents should park in the front lot and may wish to stagger entry as parking is limited. No students that arrive by 9:00 am will be marked tardy on Monday, August 23rd.
Due to the bus driver shortage, several buses may be doubled-up or have multiple routes. Bus garage personnel will do their best to convey accurate pick-up and drop-off times. Please anticipate bus delays in the morning and afternoon.
Doors open at 8:00 am. Carpool drop-off and Pick-up will be in the large side lot. Please follow the cones. Mr. Henderson will be outside directing traffic. No car rider students may enter through the front entrance of the school until the carpool line is closed for the morning. This entrance is for bus riders only.
Once the carpool line is closed, students accompanied by a parent, should enter through the front entrance to be signed in as tardy. Students coming through the carpool line are not marked tardy even if it is past 8:20 am.
Buses will unload and load in the front lot and that entrance is restricted to bus traffic during entry and dismissal times. Parents having business with the office should speak with a staff member monitoring buses and will be escorted to the office.
Early check-outs end at 3:00 pm to allow teachers and students to pack-up and complete their day with minimal confusion.
ALL transportation changes MUST be made in writing. We do not accept phone changes or email changes. This is to guarantee our students' safety at all times.
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you have.
