From the Principal
With Parent/Teacher conferences front and center, I want to thank you for taking an active role in your child's educational growth. This partnership is imperative in helping our students reach their achievement goals. There is still a lot of learning ahead of us in order to finish the school year strong! We continue to focus on our McKinley school-wide goals in the areas of reading, math, attendance, and self-regulation. These goals are infused in all that we do daily at McKinley!
Since reading is one of our school-wide goals, we adore hailing the contributions of Theodor Seuss Geisel - "Dr. Seuss", children's author and cartoonist by honoring him each year. We hope you are able to take part in celebrating with our students and staff, his birthday on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 from 7:45 a.m. - 8:15 a.m. in the McKinley gym. A ham and eggs breakfast with all the trimmings will be served as our McKinley K-3 graders perform for you. A reservation is required by calling the school at 701-446-5200. Following the breakfast, members of the community including firefighters, local athletes, members of the media and Fargo Public School district office staff will read a Dr. Seuss favorite in classroom.

Help Kids Fight Cyberbullying and Other Mean Online Behavior
Most kids will encounter mean behavior at some point in their digital lives. For some kids, this experience is a blip that's easily forgotten, while for others it can have deep, long-lasting effects. For parents, the key is staying involved in kids' lives -- both online and off -- so they can step in and offer help if necessary. With guidance from parents and educators, kids can learn how to dodge the drama and stand up for others.
Check out these 6 tips:
- Define your terms ~ make sure kids understand what cyberbullying is.
- Check in about online life ~ ask questions to kids about their online life.
- Role-play ~ talk about words and conversations that promote positivity.
- Encourage upstanding ~ supporting others and speaking up against hate speech is important.
- Take breaks ~ help kids set limits and take breaks to recharge.
- Review worst-case steps ~ walk through what to do if your child is being bullied
online.
