Honoring our Veterans 11.11.19
Today we honor all of our veterans who unselfishly placed their lives on the line for our freedom. ECHS also celebrates our own veterans today. Remember to thank your family members today for serving so bravely. A special Thank you to Mr. Jones. We appreciate your commitment and service, Mr. Jones. You are a great example of a true leader in our community. We hope you enjoy your day!
ECHS 9th Grade Nest
What are our Owls up to during Nest Time?
11.8.19 Nest Competition Winners!
Congratulations to Bailey, April, Alanna, Sarah, and Kelly for winning the freshman nest competition! Each nest was split into smaller groups who then competed against each other to try and build the tallest spaghetti tower. Each group received 25 pieces of spaghetti, 1 yard of tape, and 1 large marshmallow (to be placed at the top of the tower). The winning group built a tower reaching a height of 27.5 inches, which was 6 inches taller than any other tower. Outstanding work, team!
ECHS Club Highlights!
Black Student Union (BSU) community engagement
During our November 1st Owl Friday, representatives from the Black Googler Network (BGN) visited ECHS's Black Student Union (BSU). The Black Googler Network is an employee resource group of Googlers with a mission to cultivate Black leaders at Google and beyond, empower the communities where they operate, and transform the tech industry to reflect the diversity of its users. Members of BGN sponsor many events throughout the year, including month-long activities for Black History Month, mentoring, and volunteer opportunities.
BGN representatives Derrell Monroe and Kadeem Trimble made a special mentoring presentation for BSU that focused on career paths within the tech industry and specific obstacles faced by black applicants. Topics included; what tech companies look for in applicants, what jobs exist at tech companies that don’t require engineering degrees, building confidence to overcome imposter syndrome, and underrepresented populations in the tech industry.
Thank you Derrell and Kadeem for investing your time and effort in the ECHS community!
Folklorico Club
November 1st was "Dia De Los Muertos," also known as Day of the Dead. On this day, families are able to remember loved ones that have passed, celebrating the lives of those that meant so much. Folklorico students celebrated this Mexican cultural day together during Club time!
