Music Notes!
From Mrs. Raynor
In the Classroom
Grades K, 1, and 2
We are currently working on understanding how melodies move up and down, using high, low, and sometimes repeated sounds. We are using our voices, instruments, and even movement to demonstrate the direction of a melody. Second grade students are even identifying pitches by using syllables such as sol, mi, and la.
Grades 3, 4, and 5
Third, fourth and fifth grade students have been focusing on expressive elements such as dynamics (loud & soft) and tempo (speed of the beat.) We are ready to move on to combining those expressive elements with melody and rhythm.
These students will continue practicing these concepts playing recorder, and will begin some written music composition.
Assessment Info
As we approach the middle of the school year, county music assessments will be given to students in grades 1-5.
First graders will be assessed by listening to different types of melodies and rhythm, identifying long or short sounds as well as high or low sounds.
Second graders will be listening and identifying melodies using sol, mi, and la.
Third, fourth, and fifth graders are being assessed on correctly drawing pitches on the music staff. Students can be a bit creative composing their own short songs!
