Library Bill of Rights

The American Library Association affirms that all libraries are forums for information and ideas. This 6-page infographic is an amazing resource that provides a nice visual of the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights and its interpretations.

3 Things I Learned About at EdCamp Cardigan Camp

I had the opportunity to participate in a virtual Edcamp Cardigan Camp on Saturday. It was so fun and inspiring to chat with and learn from librarians across the world! Here are 3 new things I learned about that I already started using!

  • Clubhouse: This is basically an interactive podcast! I easily got the app, made an account, and joined a couple librarian rooms. On Sunday evening, the app sent me a notification that one of the rooms was meeting, so I hopped in and got to listen to what librarians across the country are reading! Two suggested rooms are: Boss Librarian and Friends and It's not Just Books and Bonbons. Give it a try, and maybe I'll hear you in a room one of these days!
  • Tiktok: Tiktok isn't new to me and neither are some of the library hashtags, but I didn't know there were so many videos out there about library book repair! I know a *few* librarians out there who absolutely love to repair books, so if that's you, then go to Tiktok and look up #bookrepair!
  • Print Friendy & PDF: This is an extension for your Chrome browser that allows you to remove ads, navigation, and junk from any web page before your print! How amazing is that!?

Save the Date for ExCITE!

ExCITE! (formerly School Library Boot Camp) is an annual professional development opportunity for South Dakota librarians and educators. The SD State Library partners with Black Hills State University to offer ExCITE! for undergraduate or graduate credit. This two credit course can be applied to the Library Methods requirement of the BHSU School Library Media minor and the SD DOE Library Media endorsement. It can also be used for teacher renewal.

LSTA federal funding through the Institute of Museum and Library Services provides speakers, resources, and full-tuition scholarships for attendees.

Each year brings a new theme, new personal connections, and new learning. Join us during the month of July where we will explore Information Literacy in a fully on-line course. Registration will open in Spring 2022.
