AMS Chorus News
Weekly update for the Chorus at Austin Middle School
Week Eight
Please make sure you have noted the rehearsal and concert days and times below. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday night as we kick off this year's concerts!
DRESSES ARE HERE! If your student ordered a new chorus dress, they have arrived and have been distributed. Please see the very important information below concerning these dresses! If you have any questions, please feel free to email me - spatrick@paulding.k12.ga.us
This week in class, 7th and 8th grades are pushing toward our concert and getting things concert ready. We will also be discussing concert etiquette, and how to evaluate ourselves once we've performed. Remember, our concert on Thursday is a summative (test) grade.
This week in class, 6th grade will be discussing concert etiquette, evaluation a performance, and beginning our music for our Veteran's Day concert. More information will come out next week about that concert.
I am amazed every day by how dedicated and determined the students are that are in chorus. I am blessed to be their teacher! Have a great week!!
Musically Yours,
Mrs. Patrick

MY DRESS IS REALLY LONG...WHAT DO I DO?
6TH GRADE STUDENTS: Your dress will need to be hemmed by your first concert - Nov 5th.
7TH AND 8TH GRADE STUDENTS who JUST received a NEW dress. I know that we are cutting it very close to the concert. I have 4 options for you....
1) You or someone you know can sew and knows how to hem a dress and you've got it under control. Or, you know a seamstress shop that can turn it around very quickly.
2) If your student is relatively tall and if the dress is only a tad bit too long, you can postpone having it hemmed until after the concert and your student will need to hold it up when walking up on to stage. Then, you would have plenty of time before the next concert to have it hemmed. If the dress drags like a train on the ground, this is not an option.
3)Use iron-on hemming tape. A quick search on Walmart and I found several options for just a couple dollars (see picture). You can cut the bottom of the dress to a more manageable length and then use the hem tape to create a smooth hem. Many students have done this in the past and it can work well, but after several washings may need to be reapplied, or hemmed a different way.
4) As a last resort, I have two chorus moms who have volunteered to help hem dresses. I offer this as a last resort because they cannot possibly hem every dress before Thursday evening. If you need this option, please have your student bring your dress back to school NO LATER than Wednesday morning!
Please let me know if you have ANY questions!!!
