Lansing Elementary Weekly Update
Newsletter for the Lansing Elementary School Family
July 28, 2023
Dear Families,
I am excited to welcome you to the 2023-2024 school year! We are going to have a great year! As we count down the days until school starts, our staff is busy preparing. We are in the process of finalizing our class lists and will have these available in Skyward soon. Our front office is now open from 8:00-3:30 (M-F), so please reach out with questions. We are continuing enhanced safety procedures this year. All visitors will need to call ahead and show ID when entering during the school day, and must remain in the room they are signed in to visit. Our building theme this year is Stars! We look forward to recognizing our stars with you!
A few updates/information:
Our Schedule: Our school day is from 8:30-3:30 (M-W, & F) and 9:30-3:30 on Late Start Thursdays. Students are considered tardy if they arrive at school after 8:30 (M-W, & F) and 9:30 on Late Start Thursdays. If your student(s) is going to be late or absent please call us at 913-727-1128.
Arrival & Dismissal Map: Our traffic pattern map is attached below. One change this year is that 1st grade car riders will arrive on the south side of the building and dismiss on the east side. Please see our traffic map below.
Bus transportation: must be arranged by families. Please arrange bus transportation using the following link https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScEsJBUyk0ji1m--u_x6dAYIfDmCyf0ndjZsYQgH6F-4N7PTg/viewform. Please see more bus information below.
Breakfast/Lunch: Information about cost, menu options, and general questions can be found on our nutrition services page: https://www.usd469.net/vnews/display.v/SEC/Family%20%26%20Students%7CNutrition%20Services
Family Events & PTA: We have several events planned this year. Our first two events are Meet the Teacher and Supply Drop Off on August 7 from 4-6pm. We will also have Popsicles with the Principals in our cafeteria at the same time.
Our first Parent-Teacher Association meeting is August 17th. The doors open at 6:00 for socializing and the meeting starts at 6:30. See more information below.
Before/After School care: Please see Y-care flyers (coming soon). Parents/Guardians using Y-care this year will enter on the west side (2/3 side) through doors 20 & 21.
Routines:This is a great time to start, or revisit, routines. Some important school year routines include a consistent bedtime, getting plenty of sleep, and being prepared for school each day. Typically, routines take a few weeks to get down. Practice helps!.
As you are considering how your student will go home each day, please be as consistent as possible. Additionally, it is normal for students to feel excited, scared, and/or worried as we get ready to start school. Families are welcome to visit our playgrounds this next week so students can start to become familiar with our school.
I look forward to seeing you all soon!
Respectfully,
Dr. Jennifer R. Kolb
Principal
