Unlocking the Possibilities!!!
This week we are tackling the not-so-popular topic of homework. As a lifelong educator, I can honestly say I have mixed feelings about homework. Is it necessary, is it helpful, is there significant data to support instructional growth directly linked to homework? While the short answer might be yes for some people, I could easily be persuaded to write a blog about what I don’t appreciate about homework. I could write about the negative feelings it ignites for many families. I could talk about the chaos it creates for neurodivergent learners, and I could also ramble on about the relational damage it can cause between the student and the teacher if assigned for the wrong reasons. But, I think I will stick to giving a few thoughts on how homework can be helpful, and how families with struggling students can eliminate the proverbial power struggle that can develop while navigating the world of homework.
