From the Desk of Shurandia Holden
Dear Boggess Families,
We have officially made it through our first full week at Boggess! Most students are adjusting well, making new friends and settling into their new learning environments. It has been an eventful week.
I just want to remind parents again that the waiver that allowed PISD to provide free meals to all students has expired. Plano has resumed charging for meals during the 2022-2023 school year. Please see more details below regarding the federal meal application for free or reduced price meals.
In order to keep all of our kids safe we are asking everyone to walk their bikes while on school campus.
Please join us Thursday, August 25th at 6:00 for our WATCH D.O.G.S. Pizza Night/ Sign-up. WATCH D.O.G.S. provide an extra set of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a greater sense of safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning.
MAP Testing
All students in Kindergarten through 5th grades will complete MAP testing between August 24 and September 1st.
The Measures of Academic Progress, or MAP, is a nationally norm-referenced test administered on a computer. MAP measures achievement in mathematics, reading, language usage, and science. Along with other district assessments, data from MAP allows teachers to measure a student’s academic growth. The results from these assessments let teachers know where a student’s strengths are and if help is necessary in any specific areas. Teachers use this information to guide instruction in the classroom and ensure appropriate growth for students at all levels. More information on the MAP test can be found HERE.

School Meals Information - Return of charging for Meals and application for Free & Reduced Lunches
The United States Department of Agriculture waiver that allowed Plano ISD to provide free meals to all students during the 2021-22 school year has expired. Plano ISD will resume charging for meals during the 2022-23 school year based on student eligibility for meal benefits.
Families who may qualify should complete a federal meal application for free or reduced-price meals, available through Parent Portal or via the website at www.pisd.edu/mealprogram. Click the green SchoolCafé button to begin.
Families who already have a SchoolCafé account can log in to complete the meal application. Families who do not have an account can create one by selecting that option on the main SchoolCafé page. View this SchoolCafe information video for instruction on how to complete the application.
Volunteers
We love our volunteers at Boggess. All volunteers will need to create an account and complete an application, online orientation and background check through the Plano ISD volunteer management system, VOLY, to be eligible for district/school volunteer opportunities. Please visit plano.voly.org to create a volunteer account and begin this process. These items will need to be completed by volunteers each school year.
Meet the Principal
Hello everyone,
I hope you have had a fantastic summer! At Boggess Elementary, our mission is to inspire successful life-long learners. It is my belief that the school environment should be a welcoming environment where everyone is treated with dignity and respect, learning is a priority for all, connections to the community are strong, and students grow both academically and socially in a safe learning environment.
I love reading, walking, shopping and taking road trips with my family. My husband and I are extremely blessed to have our daughter, her husband and our two wonderful grandchildren nearby.
I am honored to serve the Boggess community and I feel very fortunate to work with such amazing children and such a dedicated staff. I am just as excited for this school year to begin as I was 34 years ago when I first began my career in education. I look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting those new to the Bengal family.
Working together I know we will make this school year one of growth, excitement, and achievement for all students.
