ENDEAVOUR WEEKLY

JANUARY 6TH-12TH ~ WEEK 17 ~ #loveyourpeople

OPPORTUNITY

I spent the break reflecting, relaxing, rejuvenating and reading. I loved every single minute of it! I hope that you have also had time to do some, if not all, of the above.

The passage I'm sharing with you is something that resonated with me and I thought that I would share as I am reflecting, learning and growing in my professional and personal goal setting for the upcoming 2020 year.

The following is from the book, (Relentless, 2019, p. 32, Author, Hamish Brewer).

"You get to choose your attitude. You own it. Your attitude is your responsibility --no one else's. Before you go through the doors of your school each morning, think about the opportunity that you have each and every day -- the reason why you wanted to be a leader and educator. If you are not thinking about the opportunity, then you are focused on the obligation of a j-o-b, and that is where average lives. If you are leading and teaching for opportunity, you are on fire!"

I know, not everyday, we come with the right attitude or mindset. Neither do our students! Many of those reasons are outside of our control and theirs, too. But, let's not forget how lucky we are for the OPPORTUNITIES we have at Endeavour, each and everyday! Our students need us and personally, I need them! They are my "WHY!"

It is my goal and my hope for the year 2020 to continually check myself daily and to lead and teach for opportunity before walking into the Endeavour school doors. I hope that this excitement and self reflection is contagious and that we as a staff will be on fire as well this 2020!

I am choosing my attitude and mindset! I am excited to lead and teach with each and everyone of you and for the OPPORTUNITIES that lie before us! I feel extremely blessed to be working side by side with each and everyone of you! Let's DO THIS! #Endeavour2020

TED TALK ~ CLOCK HOURS PROVIDED

1st Monday of Every Month

TED TALK TIME

Open invitation to ALL members of the Fife School District Staff!

What is this new idea?

1 hour of dedicated time on the first Monday of each month to question, learn, share, grow, etc together. The concept is simple. We will view a short TED Talk around the topic of equity and culturally responsive ideas and strategies for ourselves (personally and professionally) and then dialog with each other for the remainder of the hour. (Think book club without the commitment of reading the whole book and meeting the deadline!)

We will abide by the group norms of

  • Speak your truth

  • Experience discomfort

  • Stay engaged

  • Expect and accept non-closure

  • And the “Vegas Rule” of “What happens in this brave space, stays in this brave space.”

Each Monday will be a stand-alone event. So if you miss one session, you can jump right back in the following month.

SCIENCE FAIR 2020

The district science showcase is coming up on Thursday, February 6th from 6:00-8:00 at Columbia. So it is time to start talking up science projects with our students. I have a couple examples if you want to show your class.

Attached to this email is the packet with information on the science fair and a planning packet to help walk students through creating a science project. I also put a copy in the copy room.

At the bottom of the first page is a registration form. This form is for your information to help give you a count of how many projects to expect from your students. I do not need this form, but as we get closer to the science fair I will be asking for a count of how many projects you expect from your classroom.

Science fair boards will be available to purchase in the office in January for $2.00 each.

Let me know if you have any questions.
