Summer Camp 2016
Miss Katie's Group - 4th & 5th Grades
This summer, I will use Remind to send out important messages and reminders via text message. This is more reliable and convenient than e-mail or updating the website. I try to only send out reminder messages a few times a week in the evening, unless it is an emergency. Please sign up by following the link below!

Don't forget to sign your child in and out every day!

Welcome to another great summer! My name is Katie Kanous (Miss Katie), and this is my twelfth summer with Clawson Childcare, and my fifth with this age group. I graduated from Oakland University with my degree in Elementary Education. Currently, I am a 1st Grade teacher at Schalm, having previously worked in the aftercare program, substitute taught for Clawson, and taught at Kenwood. In my spare time, I like to travel and take pictures.
I am very excited for this summer, and I can’t wait to share all our activities and experiences with you! Please do not hesitate to e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns!
Items Needed Daily

Things To Know
Reading We read in our room 30-45 minutes daily. Your child will have books available to them at camp, but they're from my own classroom and might be limited. Kids are welcome to bring their own books to read during reading time, but please make sure their name is in them before they come to school! | Absences/Adding Days If your child won't be attending childcare on a day that they are scheduled to come, or if you need to add an extra day, please send me an e-mail and let me know. It's really helpful for me to know when I am planning and purchasing supplies for the week! | Swimming We take the bus to the Royal Oak High School Pool every other Monday afternoon starting July 11. Your child will need a bathing suit, towel, and a bag to carry their things in. The kids are not allowed to go in the deep end unless they have passed the swim test, which the lifeguards administer. |

Home Toys Home toys (including personal video game systems) are allowed at summer camp, but can only be played during certain times. We are not responsible for toys that are lost, stolen, or broken at the Center - your child may bring them at their own risk. Please make sure your child's things are marked clearly with their name or initials. Please no Legos (I have a big box of them and they tend to get mixed together). Misuse of technology may result in loss of the privilege. | Behavior Expectations Kids are expected to behave at childcare as they would during school. Our goal is to provide a place for your child to stay that is safe and comfortable for everyone. Center-wide rules include: Be Kind, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe. Positive behavior will be rewarded, and consequences include warnings or reminders of the rules or note/e-mail home up to removal from an activity or loss of privilege. | Behavior Expectations cont.Acts of physical aggression and bullying behaviors are not tolerated at Summer Camp, and will be dealt with according to center policy. I believe that it is important for kids in this age group to be learning to be responsible for their actions, especially when it comes to being role models for the younger children and representatives of Clawson Childcare when we are out of the building. |
