As a reminder, Halloween is next Thursday, October 31. The district will allow students and staff to wear costumes to school, however, please adhere to dress code policy, and remember there are no masks, weapons of any sort, or sharp objects allowed. Students who have physical education should come prepared to participate. We encourage our elementary and Pre-K students to bring their costumes to school as opposed to wearing them. We look forward to a fun and festive day!

I heard....is it true?

Gananda Central School District recognizes the importance of communication with parents, community members, students and staff. While every effort is made to ensure that accurate information is shared, it is not uncommon for rumors or myths to be circulating throughout the community. As such, we have started a page on our website entitled, "Fact Checker Page." This page is dedicated to providing accurate information about GCSD. If you see or hear information about GCSD that you believe is inaccurate you can have it fact checked! Please send your contact information, the facts you would like checked, and where you found the information to Shannon Bergstresser, Public Relations Specialist, at: Sbergstresser@gananda.org. The first fact check: The turf field cannot be used for JV or Varsity Football Games. Is it true? Check out the answer on the Fact Checker Page!

Did you know?

A dry climate or heated indoor air irritates and dries out nasal membranes, causing them to bleed. Winter months will create more nosebleeds. Colds may also irritate the lining of the nose.

How to stop a nosebleed:

    • Lean forward slightly with the head tilted forward. Leaning back or tilting the head back allows the blood to run back into the sinuses and throat, and can cause gagging or inhaling of blood. Spit out any blood that may collect in your mouth. It may cause nausea, vomiting if swallowed. Gently, blow any blood clots out of your nose. The nosebleed may worsen slightly when you do this but this is expected.

    • Pinch all the soft parts of the nose together between the thumb and index finger.

    • Press firmly toward the face - compressing the pinched parts of the nose against the bones of the face. Breathe through your mouth as you do this.

    • Hold the nose for at least five minutes. Repeat as necessary until the nose has stopped bleeding.

    • Sit quietly, keeping the head higher than the level of the heart. Do not lay flat or put your head between your legs.

    • Apply ice (wrapped in a towel) to nose

    • Consult a doctor for a nosebleed if bleeding cannot be stopped, there is a large amount of blood loss, or you feel weak or faint. Also if you frequently get nosebleeds.
