LIVESTOCK QUALITY ASSURANCE TRANSITION PLAN
You can STILL take the old module for $5 online up until March 1st. You will NOT be able to start a new module after the new system launches, but you will be able to finish your existing one if you start it BEFORE March 1st.

2017 Special Garden Project-SUNBURST SUMMER SQUASH
Youth participating in this project will receive squash seeds, a newsletter and evaluation about planting and growing squash, squash problems, and insects, harvesting and using squash and how to exhibit squash. They will be able to enter their vegetable at County and State Fair. NEW THIS YEAR: Youth will enroll for this project on 4honline.com. Once enrolled, they will need to call our office to reserve the seeds. We have only 30 packets to distribute! Please call to reserve yours today. They will be ready to pick up in March!
Sunburst squash, also called Pattypan, has yellow, scalloped shaped fruits with bright green blossom ends. The plants are very productive and are an All-America Selection winner for its early fruit production and for producing a large number of fruits per plant. It takes about 52 days from seeding until squash is ready to harvest.
Nebraska 4-H Foundation Club of the Month
Sixth Annual Innovative Youth Corn Challenge
This contest, open to all 4-H members (age 10 and older as of Jan. 1) or FFA members (in-school members), guides participants through all aspects of corn production, as well as agricultural careers related to corn production.
A team of 2 or more youth will be challenged to implement a production practice different than normal to determine if they increased their yield. Economics and sustainability of the practice will also be considered.
Cash Prizes awarded!
1st place: $1000
2nd place: $500
3rd place: $250
Also awards for sustainability, crop scouting and "extra mile" worth $150.

Beekeeping has had its five minutes of fame for the past 7 years. Now more than ever, the general public along with beekeepers are asking, "what will happen if the bees are gone?" With the continued threat of pesticides, this is a very real question. Your paper should research and help answer this question.
Deadline for State Essays is February 24, 2017. (submit to Judy Wu-Smart- jwu-smart@unl.edu
Deadline for National Submission is March 3, 2017.
