Avery Moments

September 14, 2021

Dear Avery Families,

We have had a wonderful start to the 2021-2022 school year. It is so nice to have all students back in the building working and playing together. The students are getting used to the class routines and procedures.

On Wednesday, our new school secretary, Mrs. Janet Griffin joined our staff. She comes to us from the The Education Cooperative. If you have the need to be at Avery, please introduce yourself so she can get to know our families. We are so happy to have her on our staff.

This past Friday, our students commemorated the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001. All students participated in a moment of silence to recognize the tragedy and loss of life on that day and the acts of courage, sacrifice and compassion that followed. Each student colored a U.S. flag to hang in our windows and created thank you cards and letters for our first responders in Dedham. These were delivered to the police and fire stations on Friday.

Our annual Open House will be held Thursday, September 23 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. More information about the evening will be coming shortly.

Regards,

Clare Sullivan

D.P.S. COVID-19 School Based Testing Program

On September 7, Superintendent Welch sent out information about our school based testing program for COVID-19. If you would like for your child(ren) to participate in this program, please be sure to sign the consent. There is a new company partnering with the schools this year so you need to complete a new registration even if your child participated last year.

CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE ONLINE CONSENT FORM

If you require the form translated into a different language, please visit the DPS website for PDFs that can be printed and returned to Mrs. Griffin, our school secretary.

Dismissal

Thank you for working with us to make sure all students are dismissed safely. Please remember:

Families picking up students by car should enter Recreation Road from Whiting Avenue and queue up before picking up their students. Please post your child's name and his/her class on a paper on the dash. This will allow staff to match students and cars to make for a faster dismissal. As you approach the building, staff will be notifying classroom teachers of your arrival. We will be loading cars directly behind the cafetorium so continue to pull up as directed by staff until you reach there. Your student will then be able to enter the car. Please do not get out of your car. Also, it only takes a few minutes, please do not pull out and around cars.

If you are parking your car and walking up to pick up your child, please wait by the wall heading up to the practice field or by the plant island by the red playground for your child. Do not wait by the doors to the cafetorium. This makes it difficult for the students to exit the building.

Families parking in the pool parking lot should cross with the crossing guard before walking down Recreation Road past the high school.
