Apprentice Programs in Vermont
There are over 25 different occupations represented through Vermont apprenticeship programs. An apprenticeship program is sponsored by an employer who offers on the job training through paid work and agrees to pay for training specific to the particular career. This is a great opportunity for those who want to go right into the world of work directly from high school. For more information on apprenticeship programs in Vermont you can visit the Vermont Department of Labor Apprenticeship site.
Career Talks at Essex High School
Each month our Career Center offers Career Talks during FLEX block for our entire school community. This great opportunity can help you to learn about aspects of different careers including required training, what a job involves on a day-to-day basis, salary and benefits, and job outlooks. This month on December 12th we will hear about the following careers: Computer Scientist, Game Programmer, Digital Forensics, Cyber Security, and Data Analysis. Watch for future Career Talks information in the Daily Announcements. For more career information you can visit the Career Center in the EHS Library or meet with your school counselor.
Career Search Tools
Most of our students no matter the grade they are in are still exploring career options. In addition to our Career Center and school counselors, students can search for careers using their Naviance account. Students can find careers by career cluster, personal interests, and personality. In the career tab of Naviance under "What are my interests?" you can complete the Do What You Are personality assessment, the career interest profiler and the career cluster finder - each one will give you a list of careers that may be a match for you. If you have already completed these and want to take them again, ask your school counselor to reset your assessments. You can then read through the careers and make a list of those that interest you most, then explore the training required and plan your next steps. If you need assistance at any point make an appointment to meet with your school counselor.
