Kinder
Addition and Subtraction
This is the fruit of your labor all year! Addition and Subtraction will come easy if we have laid the foundation with composing and decomposing. Here is an ABCya Subtraction Balloon .
Measurement
Here is a link to Kinder Capacity- this article addresses common misconceptions kids can have about capacity.
First
Measurement
Unifix cubes are paramount. They give the ruler 'quantity' down the road. Measure what you can with these little tools.
Check out this nonstandard measurement game! Click start, then activity to play.
Data
Since your students have had some exposure to this concept before, focus on modeling questions to ask about graphs and having them write their own questions about their own graphs. This is a practice that really gets them thinking about the data and relationships shown in graphs. ABCYA has a fuzzbug graph that my daughter started playing in kinder.
Second
Money - Jenny Found a Penny
I have brought this story and lesson into a few 1st and 2nd grade classrooms this year. It is a great way to introduce or review identifying and counting coin collections. ABCYA has a great money counting game.
Multiplication/Division - Two of Everything
This is my favorite story to intruduce multiplication concepts. Doctor Genius has a Clever Counting game that encourages students to count numbers in 'groups of' or multiplicatively. This link would be great for a number talk about multiplication concepts. Try it our and let me know what you think.
