Winter weather:
Even in the winter months, it is important for students to have outdoor recess. Please consider the weather conditions and temperature when assisting your child with clothing for the day. Dressing in layers and wearing winter coats, hats, and gloves are most appropriate on these days. It is determined on a daily basis, but on most days students will have outdoor recess.
Transportation and Inclement Weather
Transportation for the 2020/2021 school year
There are times when we are asked if a new stop can be made. This type of request may take a minimum of two weeks to coordinate and process the information (weather permitting). Such requests would require us to go out and look at a house location to make a better determination if the request can or cannot be done. To help us locate you easier, please ensure your address is clearly posted and no less than 3 inches tall and visible from both directions and not obstructed from trees, shrubs, etc.
Please remind your student(s) of proper bus stop behavior by standing at the stop and not playing games or horsing around and not going onto or disturbing someone else’s property. Also, please remind your student(s) there are several bus rules and one of them is; There is NO food nor drink permitted on the school bus. There is the potential for another student to have an allergic reaction to that item. The newest rule that MUST be followed is to wear your face covering at all times while on the bus and to stay in the seat that has been assigned to you.
Inclement Weather: The new notifications system will follow the districts guidelines that are sent out via Skyward and will also be updated via the districts web page at www.rlasd.net; Twitter: @rlschools and Facebook: Red Lion Area School District. Please ensure your contact information is updated in Skyward. Announcements are no longer affiliated with any radio stations.
Dental
Dental Thoughts about Wearing Masks
We all wear masks during these challenging times. They are referred to as our personal protective equipment otherwise known as PPE. As a result of wearing our masks we now have different dental issues such as not drinking enough fluids, cavities, cracked teeth, and clenching. What beverages are you drinking? Is it juices, acid drinks or water with flavoring? Try to avoid the acidic drinks such as fruit juice, coffee and increase your plain water. Bring a water bottle along with you to school to sip water all day, and refill it at least once a day.
Take mask breaks if possible.
Do you chew gum? Read the label, is it sugarless and does it have Xylitol as the first ingredient on the label? If so, plan to chew that type of gum for 5 minutes 5 times a day. The Xylitol can stimulate salivary flow, bring the pH up to 7, and create an environment where specific caries microbes can’t thrive.
As the School Dental Hygienist, I would like everyone to have healthy teeth along with a healthy body!
***If you went to the dentist please return your Family Dental Form to the nurse!
