Craftsbury Schools Newsletter
December
Hello Craftsbury Families,
It is late December and it is time for students and families to have a break from school and for people to hopefully share some time together peacefully. It is also a great time to reflect on the year and celebrate successes and acknowledge the year's challenges. I have been very fortunate to observe and hear about many successes this year. Students and staff have been working hard over the prior two quarters and their efforts are showing success across the grade levels. We have students in the PreK-2 grade levels that are mastering their letters and increasing their reading levels preparing them for a life of reading. We have students in grades 3-5 who were recently learning about their civil rights and will be able to take this information with them for the rest of their lives. We have students in grades 6-8 who are mastering the concepts of density and who have recently had the opportunity to study Roman history. Our high schoolers have been learning about the American Revolution in history class to get a better understanding of how our country started. To support their local community, many of our students have been working on gathering food for our Hardwick Food Pantry. Other students have been gathering supplies to provide support for the animal shelter in Barton. Our athletes this year have had several successes including a state championship in cross country. These are just a few of the successes our students have experienced in the first part of this school year and I am looking forward to the rest of the school year to see what other accomplishments occur.
Thank you and have a wonderful holiday,
Matt Foster

A PBIS Celebration
The students in grades 3-5 have been working hard to fill their pompom jar! They have reached their goal by showing the Craftsbury Schools' expectations of Protect Safety, Engage In Learning, and Building Community. David Martin and his Live Wire Magic and Illusion Show helped them celebrate with a fun and entertaining performance!

A Note From Ms Jess
Reminder: Winter has arrived and with that students are expected to bring a pair of dry and clean sneakers to wear in the gym. If students have borrowed a pair of sneakers and the extra pair has made its way home, please have your student bring them back so other students can use them when needed.
P.E. Schedule:
Grade 3, 4, 5: Monday / Wednesday
Grade 6: Wednesday / Thursday
Grade 7: Tuesday / Thursday
Grade 8: Monday / Wednesday
Cross-Country Skiing:
Cross Country Skiing for grades k-2 will begin January 3 thanks to the availability of gear provided by the Nordic Rocks program. If your student has cross-country skiing gear they are more than welcome and encouraged to bring their own gear to learn and practice on.
Cross-country skiing for grades 3-5 will begin on Monday, January 23, and continue every Monday until March. The Craftsbury Outdoor Center is allowing the P.E. program to bring gear from the Center to the Academy campus to encourage as much time on skis as possible. If your student has their own cross-country gear (especially boots) they are encouraged to bring it.
We are so grateful for both of these programs that allow students the opportunity to take advantage of the environment they grow up in and learn skills they can continue to use throughout their lives to lead a healthy lifestyles.
Greetings, Orleans Southwest SU Families
I assist with the Skating School at Fenton Chester Arena in Lyndonville. We will be holding new skating lesson sessions beginning in January 2023. We would like to share information about these upcoming sessions with the families in your supervisory union.
Our Session 3 will feature group lessons at all skating levels, including groups for first-time skaters. Lessons are open to everyone age 3 and older, at all levels, including first-time skaters.
Our Session 4 will be devoted to preparation for an Ice Show--a form of musical theater on ice.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the attached flyer or our lessons. To register, please follow this link. Registration ends January 3rd.
Gratefully,
