Removing Barriers:
That doesn't change during this closure
TCS Daily Update
Superintendent Mike Daria says TCS is committed to removing barriers for students and families in this uncertain time.
Connecting With Each and Every Student
The Tuscaloosa City Schools' mission challenges us to work for each and every student. Because of the unprecedented crisis, TCS teachers will begin the work of connecting with each and every student and their family this week. Your principal will detail plans for teachers to personally check and connect with families before the weekend as part of our commitment to supporting students learning and well being.
Superintendent Mike Daria said this measure is important.
"It is important for us that every student and every family in our district get a call from their teacher to say 'How are you? We care about you and we miss you," he said. "We need to know what each student needs if we move to an online (learning) platform.
While the system is currently implementing its Review, Reinforce and Practice academic plan during the two-week state-mandated closure, TCS continues to make plans for the future. Additionally, teachers will confirm with parents any technology supports needed to continue student learning at home.

More Teachers Needed to Serve
The demand for meals for children 18 and under has prompted TCS to open up more volunteer slots to assist the CNP staff. If you are a non-exempt employee and can help, sign up today. So far, more than 7,000 meals have been served this week!
TCS teachers have been crucial in providing familiar faces to students during this time away from the classroom.

Building Safety
As the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to impact the state of Alabama, the Tuscaloosa City Schools is making moves to protect the safety of buildings. As part of the system's plan to combat the effects of the virus, TCS will begin limiting access to its facilities. In the coming days, your principal will provide you with more guidance on access to the building which will include limiting your time inside the building and not bringing guests, including children, while inside.
