October Coyote News
Starr Elementary
Highlights and Recognition
Dear Families,
There are a million reasons #starrshines. September has flown by and we are looking forward to a wonderful October. This month was all about community and here are some ways the Richmond community embraced Starr.
Our third and fourth grade Coyotes participated in the "Speak Out, Be Safe" program through Jacy House. We are privileged to have this partnership for our students.
The Richmond Fire Department (Firehouse 1) organized and led a "Kick Ball' camp for our grade 1-4 Coyotes. Check out our Facebook and Twitter pages to see the bright smiles and enthusiasm this brought our students.
Because of the generosity and support of community donors our first ever drone club for girls kicked-off in September. This group is JUST starting and we can't wait to see all they will accomplish this year.
Many of our community partners came together to help Starr celebrate "It Starts with Hello," a national program aimed at ending bullying and preventing loneliness in schools.
CrossFit is back at Starr and our community partner, Family Fitness Works really helps to make #starrshine.
More than Words is back and our students had a GREAT first assembly from this community partner in September. How cool!
Starr Elementary is truly a community of learners, working daily to educate all students while showing empathy and understanding. More importantly, Starr strives every day to live its mission..."Preparing students for their future, not our past," by teaching 21st century skills and standards through academics, respect, and responsibility.
Sincerely,
Starr Faculty and Staff

General Expectations and Procedures
Students need to be in class and ready to begin their daily activities at 7:50. Our dismissal time is 2:40 on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. We dismiss at 1:40 on Tuesday. Unless it is an absolute emergency transportation changes cannot be made after 2 on M,W,TH, F or after 1:10 on Tues. We need for all our students to be here daily and on time. Attendance is important at Starr. Please schedule all appointments after school hours.
The only entrance that will be accessible throughout the school day will be the front door at 301 North 19th Street. This door will be locked for security purposes. Please press the door bell and we will let you in. All other doors will remain locked for security reasons. All visitors are to report to the office and will be asked to sign in, sign out and wear a visitor’s badge while in the building.
Breakfast will be served from 7:15-7:45.
Please make sure to complete a police background check if you are interested in doing volunteer work for Starr. This must be completed every year.
Safety is a priority at Starr. During drop off and dismissal we ask that all parents and guardians wait outside the main doors to pick up their students and to do their goodbyes. Starr faculty and staff will be waiting each morning to welcome your student and teachers will accompany students through dismissal each day. When we have a two-hour delay, school will start at 9:50. You can access school closings/delays by going to the Richmond Community Schools web site, listening to the radio, or watching television.
