ALL THINGS CURRICULUM
Together WE Believe...Together WE Achieve!
MATRIX
Learners are working successfully through our MATRIX covering all rational numbers. The next two weeks worth of workshops will cover multiplying and dividing rational numbers. If you are looking for support at home please use Modules 5 and 6 in the resource book for practice. We should be able to complete our current MATRIX by the end of next week with the post-assessment to follow the week after next. If you have any questions about learner expectations please don't hesitate to ask.
Improper Fractions
Jewel uses models to show how an improper fraction and the mixed numeral name the same amount of space.
Math Club
Math Club doing a wonderful job with fractions using fraction strips for understanding.
Multiplying Fractions Workshop
5D started to "fix" our thinking about how multiplication works with rational numbers. Repeated addition and models help build understanding of the concept before they start using algorithms.
S.W.I.M.A.S.
5D has been doing a wonderful job with our guided investigations focused on the different types of energy. We will be investigating mechanical energy this week as well as setting up our first formal experiment designed to test of affects of force on an object. Please know that all learners have access to Discovery Education at home should they need a little "fixing" of their thinking. Below are a few pictures from our experiences this week.
Green Pod
Lu Lu, Gizmo, Ghost, Odin, and Lemon Drop did a wonderful job figuring out how to create a circuit where two lights are on at the same time!
Purple Pod
Purple Pod did a wonderful job using a conductor after their wire had been cut in two.
Twinkle
Twinkle did a wonderful job showing 2nd graders how S.W.I.M.A.S. works. She used her practical from our last post-assessment to model an investigation about matter.
L.O.L.
We have been working on finishing our most recent L.O.L. menu focusing on creative writing and procedural expository writing. Although we had originally set Halloween weekend as our due date, the 50 points required on this menu has demanded a greater amount of processing time because of the writing requirements. L.O.L. activities will be due this Friday, November 13. Please check with your learner to make sure the activities are housed in his/her G-Drive by the end of the week.
Our Story
5D finished presenting billboards about the 13 colonies this week. We will start focusing our attention on the "Intolerable Acts" next week, and learners will be expected to make connections between how the colonies were formed and why they would want to separate from England. When asking about Our Story concepts please ask learners to explain the big ideas as we've discussed the importance of how the big ideas contribute to the writing of history more so than individual events themselves.
GOOGLE DRIVE
Please don't forget to be looking through your child's G-Drive for current work in all curricular areas!
