Ms. McMorrow's Counselor's Weekly!
Resources for K-2 Parents
April 16, 2021
Happy Friday Families!
Hope you've all had a great week. This week we are continuing our theme of GROWTH in our counseling classroom, and it's so amazing to see your children share the things they've learned through our social-emotional learning activities this year so far!
First up, students were asked to create a flower depicting the seeds of SEL skills we've sown this year emphasizing that you have to take care of and nurture these skills just like a plant so that they grow with you!
We focused on:
- Friendship
- Kindness
- Gratitude
- Mindfulness
- College and Career
- Goal Setting
Our Garden of Growth!
This past week, we read the book Fantastic, You! to discuss what students can do to take care of the most important person in their lives - themselves. Below is student Leah Laboy sharing how she takes care of herself!

As we move forward with this month's theme - I encourage you to discuss with your child what it means to be growing, and that it never stops. Growth can be physical such as height, but can also be emotionally and mentally. Some ideas to practice at home:
- Take care of yourself, even when it feels like the last thing you can do right now.
- Establish routines and intentionality.
- Presence is not the same as being present.
- Commit acts of service or kindness for others.
- Engage in creativity together.
- Celebrate what you can.
- Practice active listening.
