The J-Hawk Experience!
Info you need to know for week of November 19 - 20!
Message from the principal
Living in the Urbandale community and central Iowa in general, we have a great deal to be thankful for as we enter the Thanksgiving holiday week. To honor this time to give thanks, we will be having school only on Monday and Tuesday this week then having no school on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, to take extra time to be with family and friends to give thanks and celebrate our gratitude.
In that same spirit, I would like to share just a few of those things we as a community are thankful for as it relates to hope, engagement, and learning at UHS. Special thanks to all the people who sent in messages and notes with words of thanks for our team at UHS and recognize the work we are doing and connections that are being made. Below are excerpts from some of those emails shared with me:
- We went to parent/teacher conferences tonight. We always appreciate the opportunity to speak with the teachers. We walked away so appreciative of these special people working with our son everyday. Four of the five we spoke to talked to us not only about the class, but brought up personality characteristics, hobbies and extra curricular activities that our child participates in. We could tell they knew him not only as a student, but as a person. We felt you should know how much we appreciate the great staff at UHS. Thank you!!
- We are thankful for all the amazing teachers who take extra time to mentor and support our kids. I can’t say enough about the support that our daughter has gotten from the following Jill Duffield, Christy Stroope, Darlene Wagner, Jamie Chavez, Gretta Richardson, Christy Johnston, and Mrs. Wilson.
- I am so thankful for the staff at the high school. My son's teachers have been very accommodating to my son's needs as he works through the final year at Urbandale High School. They work with him in a way that guides him towards success and builds his self-esteem. These are critical for my son as he works towards graduation and post graduate school. I feel that I can contact them at any time and they are prompt in responding to me. From classroom teachers, counselor, to administration, my son is receiving the thing he needs to move to the next phase of his life; for that, I am most thankful.
Below is a design students from our Spanish classes created to note what they are thankful for. They are right...we have so much to be thankful for at home and here at Urbandale High School! I am grateful for our amazing team of teachers and staff members as well as our students working each day to learn and grow so we can change the world!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
