Tips for Setting Online Boundaries with Students
Grief and Loss
Everyone is currently experiencing some sort of loss: sports seasons, spring musical, prom, the regular day-to-day, etc.
This 'new normal' during COVID-19 is being experienced by everyone in their own, unique way.
That loss requires grieving periods that are individually unique and not healthy to compare.
Comparison, Acceptance and 5 Stages of Grief During COVID-19: Special Edition
*It's OK to ebb and flow through the 5 stages
*How to feel productive and focused during the acceptance phase
*Avoid comparison and simply do YOUR best
Teachers Are Everyday Superheroes! COVID-19 Edition
*Keep letting your kids know that they are loved, you miss them and they MATTER
*Oxygen mask on you first
STAY STRONG!
Sick and Personal Days
You can still use your personal days and sick days as you normally would.
Put the day in AESOP as usual, notify your students, and Sean and me that you will be "out" that day.
There is no expectation that you work, check email, check Schoology etc. while on paid time off.
Fitness Challenge!
A message from Mr. Engle (& OVMS STAFF):
Good afternoon OVSD STAFF!
I have a favor to ask of anyone willing to join the OVMS Staff in helping our students live longer, healthier, physically active lives.... (just a bit of peer pressure there haha)
I have attached a list of exercise cards that I found online... take a look!
I am hoping for as many teachers/staff/admin/etc. as possible to video themselves doing 1-2 of the exercises (for maybe 10 repetitions/seconds per exercise) (many OVMS staff have already done this!!!)
I would like to use as many of the exercise cards as possible, so perhaps we can "claim" exercises on a googledoc to avoid repeats (although some repeats might be helpful for transitions)---***I just don't want everyone doing the same 3 things SIGN UP HERE: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1y6ce0li3Ml7XfKIg0Ni63MyOFncw5Gbo5dLPl_rMKms/edit?usp=sharing
My hope is to have enough exercises recorded to create an OVSD workout video to post for our students next week (I will add music over the sounds of any grunting/straining/background noises so don't worry about that!)
It would also be cool if you found places inside your homes, basements, garages, backyards, driveways, etc. to record it so that our students realize all the different places we can be physically active at home (while social distancing) *I don't think I have to say this but please wear OVSD gym approved wardrobe ---appropriately fitting t-shirt & athletic shorts/pants with sneakers (highsocks, sweatbands, and fannypacks optional!)
Also Optional: At the end of the video I could post any motivating messages you have for the students (You could film it at a distance or selfie-style)---Something like "Keep working hard," "We miss you," or my personal favorite "If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you!" haha ---just make sure the audio is clear if you video from a distance or are outside.
Anyone submitting new video clips MUST have them submitted by Friday, April 10th so I can try to edit the video and have it ready ASAP!
VIDEO DIRECTIONS!!!
Just a bit of advice.. you can definitely record using Iphones, but it looks like they will need to be emailed to me as an attachment using your school or personal email (no texts)--- otherwise they lose a lot of the video quality and I am not sure how to improve that on my end (probably because I have an Android).. Also if you want your video recording to be "full screen" then you may have to use your laptop recording devices (Quicktime, Imovie,etc)... I used Quicktime Player (i have attached one of my videos as an example) and it was pretty easy to record/save (I'll put directions for quicktime below)... if you record with your Iphone, you'll be in the video but the video doesn't fill the full screen and you'll have a black border to your left and right...
Quicktime & Sending Instructions:
1. Open Quicktime Player
2. Select File (tab at the top left side of your main desktop screen)
3. Select New Movie Recording
4. Maximize the recording Window (so you can see yourself easily if you're recording yourself)
5. Hit Record Button
6. Perform your exercise
7. Stop Recording
8. Close Recording window (you will be prompted to save the video--- Save it!)
9. Email your videos as an attachment to DENGLE@ovsdpa.org
10. Check the Googledoc sign up sheet (I will thank you for sending your video and "turn you GREEN" when I add your video)
Again, thanks for sending what you can ASAP so I can work as I go through my email throughout the day! I will try to have the video done by Monday if everyone can send their clips ASAP!
I know you're all very busy so thanks for your time and effort! Let me know if you need any help or have any questions!
Thanks for considering and hopefully participating!
I'll be checking my email for your videos!
Take care!
