First Week of School

We have officially completed our first week of 5th grade! Your teachers had a wonderful time getting to know each of you and showing you the different programs and platforms you will use throughout the school year.

August 16th we will begin course instruction. When you attend live Class Connects, your teacher will present concepts taught in your OLS lessons (Online Learning School).

NWEA Assessments

Our NWEA assessment window is Monday, August 23rd - Friday, August 27th. We will complete a Reading and a Math assessment during that window. The assessments will take place during your regularly scheduled Class Connect sessions.

It is important that students complete the assessments without any assistance because teachers personalize learning based upon the results. You can prepare for the NWEA assessments by completing the practice assessment below.

Friendly Reminders:

  • There is no time limit.
  • Students will still be responsible for completing OLS assignments during testing window.
  • Eat a quality breakfast and get a good night's rest.
  • Do your best!

Course Information

Unit 1 in our Summit Math curriculum, begins with decimals. We will begin with representing decimals through models and finding relationships between fractions and decimals. We will explore decimal place value as well.

As you progress through each lesson, you will be directed to complete tasks in the provided workbooks.

Unit 1 in our Summit ELA course begins with an author study of Patricia MacLachlan. She will introduce you to a farm and some fun characters in her book Sarah, Plain and Tall. Along your reading journey, you'll learn key reading skills, like how to identify a theme and make an inference.

Students are expected to work for 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week in MindPlay. They should be completing these lessons independently, as it adapts to their level.

In order to complete the lesson, students need to click the "Open MindPlay" link inside the course and actively work for 30 minutes in MindPlay before marking the lesson complete in the OLS.
