Winter Concert - Monday, December 16th at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm
We are so excited that our all-school winter concert is approaching! Students have been working hard practicing with music teacher, Christina Pappalardo. The Washington chorus and all grade levels K-5 will sing winter songs for you!
There will be identical performances at 10am and 2pm. Half-day morning kindergarten students will only participate in the 10:00am concert. Doors will open at 9:30am and 1:30pm at the earliest. The west flow zone parking lot will be open for parking, but cars must be removed immediately after the concert in order for our lot to be available for recess and dismissal.
Students will be in class when they are not performing.
Please notify your child's teacher if you do not want your child to participate in the winter concert 12/16 and/or the holiday sing-a-long and party on 12/20.
Donations Being Collected for Christmas Sharing Organization
Washington is collecting items for the Christmas Sharing Organization again this year. Christmas Sharing is a program organized to help families living within CUSD 200 who are facing financial difficulty. Sponsored by CUSD 200, local churches, businesses, and civic organizations, this program reaches to all corners of our community.
The organizers of Christmas Sharing have expressed a special need for:
Good, gently used clothing for all ages, and especially for infants and children
Winter coats, boots, hats, scarves, mittens, and gloves for all ages
Dishes, flatware, and cooking utensils
New or gently used toys, games, and books
New underwear and socks for all ages
Through donating food, clothing, and toys; Washington families will be able to make a difference in the lives of families in the Wheaton, Warrenville and Carol Stream area. Please make sure that any donations are either new, or in very good and usable condition.
Donations of non-perishable food and new or lightly used items should be brought to Washington School Tuesday, November 12 through Monday, December 9th at 9:00am for distribution by local churches. Donations can be placed on the tables outside the main office. Christmas Sharing is recognized as a 501(c)3 public charity making contributions deductible. Please call or email Mrs. Glasser, social worker at Washington, if you have any questions email@example.com. Thank you for your help!
New Report Card Standard: Social Studies Inquiry
The inquiry approach will be embedded into social studies lessons, and students may also do some in-depth inquiry work through activities and projects their teachers plan in collaboration with our library director Mr. Babb. Recently, 3rd grade students have researched national parks and 5th graders have researched individual's experiences during World War II.
Enjoy this national parks travel video by a group of students in Mrs. Burkard's 3rd grade class.
Thank You, Veterans!
Thank you to staff members Kim Dillon, David Ourada, Cara Switalski, Christina Pappalardo, and J.J. Babb for working with the student council and chorus in preparation for the assembly.
Thank you to parent Kathy Radojkovic and PTA volunteers Diane Karpman, Bradalis Sunich, Shawna Herleth-King, Holly Rodgers, Libby Phillips-Hill, and David Worniak for providing a reception for our veteran guests. Thank you also to Julie Crosthwaite for taking photographs.

From the Health Office
Packing a healthy lunch helps your child be at their best for the school day. Some healthy eating tips are in the links below. When students are regularly offered fruits and vegetables, they learn to like them. When parents set the expectation of eating healthy at a young age, those habits will follow their children for a lifetime.Better Nutrition Every Day
Please Help Us Keep Our Students Safe
- If your child walks to school, please remind him/her to watch for cars and cross President St. with the crossing guard.
- Be vigilant of children when driving close to the school and drive very slowly in the flow zone and main parking lot.
- Passing a school bus while it's stop sign is out is strictly prohibited.
- Please observe our parking lot and FLOW ZONE procedures, including during BASP pick up and drop off. The driveway by door one is an entrance, not an exit.
- Using a hand-held cell-phone while driving is prohibited.
- We ask that you keep dogs off school property during arrival, school hours, and dismissal.
- Please do not double and triple park in the school parking lot or on Bridle Lane.
- Please observe the No Parking signs along Bridle Lane. The Wheaton Police Dept. acknowledges parents need to drop off and pick up their children from school. They ask that cars refrain from lining up on Bridle Lane until 8:45am and 3:15pm. Cars there prior to those times and cars left unoccupied may be subject to a ticket.
Thank you for partnering with us to keep our children safe.
