The Raptor Report November 2020
Office: (262)363-6318 Fax: (262)363-6343
From the Principal
Hello Rolling Hills’ families,
The leaves are beginning to turn color and the temperature is slowly descending. I love this time of year for many reasons. The smell of fall is in the air and the crispness of the morning adds a little pep to our step. There are many activities to participate in as families during this time of the year. Many families love to carve pumpkins, go on hay rides, take a walk in the woods or pick apples. These are just some of the things I remember about this time of year during my childhood.
October was a busy month. As a school, we participated in National Fire Prevention Week.
Thank you to the Mukwonago Fire Department for sharing their message of how to be safe and all the people who supported our Online Scholastic Book Fair. A HUGE thank you to our PTO for organizing our faculty dinner during Parent Teacher Conferences. Your efforts never go unnoticed. THANK YOU!!!!
Lastly, I would like to leave you with this thought. Let’s focus on GRIT! What is grit? Grit is defined as having resolve, perseverance, tenacity and strength of character. So many of
our students are blessed with unlimited support, a wonderful life full of learning experiences,
and a multitude of opportunities, but that is not true for all. For some children, their circle of
influence and affluence may not provide certain key elements of growing up strong in every way. As part of our daily curriculum, students learn problem solving strategies and work through struggles that build toughness for the real world. In order for our students to be successful 21st century learners they need to continue to be challenged academically, physically, and socially. As we move forward with our diverse enrichments along with our required MASD curriculum and focus on grit, I am hopeful that along with a strong family structure, and a strong community, we can continue to build resilience and an array of tools and traits for each student’s success in the future.
Have a great November!
Dr. Ron Schlicht, Principal

STUDENT COUNCIL
“The only thing in life that is constant is change!” Covid-19 has certainly required us
to make changes and adjustments to the ways we do things; however, that does not
prevent us from making a difference in the lives of others. Therefore it is especially
important this year for us to move forward with our annual Adopt-A-Family campaign. Our
annual “Adopt-A-Family” campaign will be held, Tuesday, November 10 th , Wednesday,
November 11 th , and Thursday, November 12 th - challenging each of us as part of our Rolling Hills community to support this worthwhile cause - please consider contributing what you are able!
Last year we were able to collect $5,477.05 making it possible to sponsor fourteen families
with a combined thirty-two children, ranging in age from ten months to sixteen years. In
addition to clothing, including pajamas and multiple gifts for each child, we were able to
provide each family with food certificates. When we put our hearts together, it is amazing
the impact we are able to make. Details regarding the campaign (and yes, our contributions
will need to be made in different formats; either, checks, venmo or paypal) will be sent
home the first week of November, so, please mark your calendars now. Rolling Hills is very
thankful to have so many supportive families! Rolling Hills truly does make a difference!
Remember to refer to our “Rolling Hills Theme Days” calendar to stay up-to-date
with our scheduled “spirit” days. Rolling Hills is truly spirited!
PBIS Spotlight
Our PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) Team has been working to maintain an optimistic and supportive environment in these challenging first few months of school for both students and staff.
Students were encouraged to save their ROAR cards from last year to add to the cards they will be earning this year. As students continue to show the Raptor Way by being respectful, responsible, and safe, one of the ways they are rewarded will be with a ROAR card given to them by a staff member. Students will have the opportunity to spend their ROAR cards on items in the ROAR store every other week, or save up for larger items.
September's Monthly Focus was about showing Kindness. Dr. Schlicht reminded students of the focus in the morning announcements, and provided suggestions of specific behaviors that would show Kindness in the classroom, the playground, and in the school environment in general.
The ROAR store opened in October and students have the opportunity to shop 2 times a month. This year the ROAR store is being done virtually or by filling out a form.
The specialist teachers will continue to give our Golden Awards this school year to the K-3 and 4-6 classrooms demonstrating the Raptor Way during their classes. Congratulations to the September and October classroom winners.
