November 3 Issue
Classroom Update
Dear Students and Families,
I hope you all are having a good November. I have greatly enjoyed being able to watch your children grow and learn so far. This week we are going to work on learning about different people that help our community. We are also going to learn what the different people do. We are going to have a fire truck come visit the school on Monday to teach us all about fire safety and the different things that firefighters do. Please let me know if this might scare your child for any reason. We also are going to learn about some of the tools that different community helpers use in their job. We are going to work on matching the name of the person to their picture. In addition, we are going to look at the different workers in the school (i.e.. the principal, nurse, librarian, councilor, assistant principal, custodian, and cafeteria workers). We will be going by these different school workers locations to see what they do in the school.
In reading this week we are learning "sh" letter combinations. We will be deciding if a word ends with "sh" or something else. Our students are also continuing to work at their own pace on their star words to improve recognition, reading, and spelling of the words. Please make sure and try to go over those words with our students once a day. They are all moving along very well. We are also going to be working with a poem about autumn leaves and finding our star words in the poem. Our letter for the week is "N".
We are working on counting up to 50 and being able to write the numbers. We are trying to make sure that the students are writing their numbers the correct direction. Our number for the week is "3".
Finally, on Monday, November 11 we are going to be participating in a performance for Veteran's Day. We would like to welcome all of you to come to our performance and bring your family to see our students perform in honor of our veterans. Please help encourage our students to wear something red, white, and blue on Monday. I look forward to seeing you there.
The whole school is collecting names of people currently or formerly in the armed forces. If you could please send in the names of any service man/woman that you know with their rank and branch of the service. Please also include your student's name. We thank you in advance for your participation.
I hope you enjoy your week!
Sincerely,
Ms. Catherine Spitzer
